    Server recommendation

    Howdy,

Im not totally new to Wow Private server and have run sever over the last couple of years. I've tested several servers out there and currently am running a mangos server. The reason I went with mangos was because it had all the characters spells working and the DB we use is pretty populated. Having said that, I'm looking for a new server to run based on the criteria listed below. I'd like to get opinions from you guys.

    1) Server needs to be updated fairly soon after a new patch so users don't have to keep two version of Wow on their computer. A reasonable time is a week or two, I don't think I'm asking for a miracle here. I can compile code from SVN if that's required to update the emulator as well.
    2) A website that goes with it would be nice. I've been using one for the mangos server we have nice and find it easy. Website should have user account creation and let an admin change roles
    3) Be as blizzlike as possible. When I say blizz like I mean the ability to have people ride on the traveling mammoth kind of stuff. A lot of quests in Northrend require the taking over of an animal or machine - all the servers I've tested are lacking this feature. I think it's a biggie.
    4) Have the ability to adjust what commands the player has via SQL. Since my private servers are primarly used for BOT developement I like the players to be able to mimic their Blizzard Wow character on our server. It would be nice if I didn't have to log in and do it all.
    5) Have some nice extra cool stuff. While not a huge thing, I do find it nice to see stuff Blizzard doesn't have.
    6) Have a configuration file that will allow to adjust most of the game settings. Most all servers have this, but I'd like a server that gives me the most options.

Recommendations? I know 3.1.2 just came out so I'm not expecting any that handle 3.1.2...but it should at least do 3.1.1 and have an update soon that I can upgrade.

    Thanks in advance.

Just stay with Mangos, and eventually learn C++ to compensate for:

Well I know how to create content just fine. I've just been doing it mostly using the object already in game. I'm a wiz at SQL so adding stuff wasn't huge. I was actually writing an application to make it easier.

I think point 3 should get the most attention here. Since a lot of the quests in northrend require you to take over something, vehicle or animal the ability needs to be there on the private server as well.

Also, mangos isn't the fastest when it comes to updates either. Historically speaking, the are almost the last to get up to the new updates.

You're wrong. They usually are the fastest, they just use different branches for new client updates. For 3.1.1 or 3.1.2 just use the branch named "310". It's still unsupported but if you know what you're doing there shouldn't be a problem. If you are using a repack then it's your own fault as repacks are usually outdated and buggy.

I dont tend to use repacks unless I'm checking out a new system all together. I've been on the SVN of mangos for a bit, but I prefer to stick to supported stuff. They are not the fastest to get supported models out there.

I'm not against using mangos, but I have yet to see a mangos version that can satisfy point 3.

Then that's your choice and you can't really blame mangos for that. There is no reason to rush things. They just don't want to support it too early and get forums filled with problems, people are still free to use it and many people do. Just because it's unsupported doesn't mean it's buggy, it's just not "ready".

FYI, mangos doesn't use SVN anymore. I hope you mean Git or you're on a very old version

Mangos + scriptdev2 + UDB is probably the closest you can get to point 3, just keep update them often and vehicle quests should get implemented over time.
