    Modifying Professions and Recipes

I've been doing a lot of research, and searching the forums, and I'm having some trouble getting help or getting directions for what I want to modify on my own server.

    1) alter the ingredient requirements of recipes
    2) create new recipes that make existing game items
    3) create new recipes that make custom items
    4) change the results of disenchanting/prospecting/milling items

From what I understand, recipes mostly fall under the category of "spells" mechanically in the databases, which means I'll have to alter an mpq and patch the game client-side, which I am willing to do. So far, though, I've been unable to successfully alter any recipes. I had a hard enough time just finding a repack with working professions. Also, DBCUtil doesn't seem to work for me either, which is a major roadblock.

Does anyone have any further advice for me? Like which emulator/repack/database combinations have working and nonworking professions? What I might use instead of DBCUtil? And, in general, any advice about altering professions on my server?

These are some helpful links I've already found:
    Custom spells! - AC Web
    Spell.dbc - WoW.Dev Wiki

Can anyone out there help me figure out how to modify spells on my personal server? I've followed the directions on both of these guides; I am getting no errors; but any changes I try to make don't appear in the game.

    Custom spells! - AC Web

    Here is what I've done:
    1. Use an MPQ extractor to extract spells.dbc
    2. Convert spells.dbc into spells.dbc.csv using DBCUtil
    3. Open spells.dbc.csv in notepad and replace the word "Fireball" with "Firebloom" everywhere it appears (I have tried using a few CSV editors, but DBCUtil always gives me a corrupted dbc when I have done that, so I just use notepad.)
    4. Delete spells.dbc, then convert spells.dbc.csv into a new spells.dbc file using DBCUtil.
    5. Use EITHER MyWarcraftStudio or MPQMaster to put a folder called DBFilesClient\spells.dbc in a file called patch-enUS-9.mpq. Sort it. Repack it. And put it in either the data or enUS folders (neither work).
    6. Start up MaNGOS and then start WoW(2.4.2) using ModelEditFix.exe

I get no errors, the conversions execute to 100%, and nothing has changed when I start the game.

Is anyone out there successfully altering spells? How do you do it?
