cannot start server

I downloaded a server set it up and everything no problem have mysql 5.0 navi etc it wrked fine for a bit but when i woke up next morning to play i started database.bat strts up fine but when i go to strt up logonserver.exe or world it says:"Connection failed due to: 'unknown database 'characters''.

your mysql database for the logon on server is usually characters or logon, login. i think this is just saying that the names dont correspond. go into your database find your logon database check the name and change it in your logon.exe config. that should help.

The problem is that you need to have the same remote password for both config files. Scroll down in your logon config and change "remote password" to like 123.
Do the same for World config.

What GangstaGreen Means is to find the <LogonServer RemotePassword = "Change_me_Logon"

To ascent. Then find the same "Change_Me_Logon" in World and change THAT to ascent
