people can't get past realm list. I can when on same computer.

I've played private servers for a while, but this is the first time i've tried making my own so I'm kind of new to everything.
I downloaded and set up the mangos noobpack by 711 from here

I followed the steps exactly and so the server starts and seems to run fine as I'm able to get on and play it while on the same PC. The problem comes in where a friend of mine in the same room is able to login and get to the realm list but when he selects the realm, it starts loading the character screen for about a second and then goes back to the realm list. Port forwarding shouldn't be the problem because both of us are on a network where all the computers have their own external IP address (the ip that shows up when you go to ipchicken is the same ip that's assigned to the network card) and are not behind any firewall, router, etc.

In the guide I linked to it says to use an sql program to change the server address
"Allowing others to connect to the server:
Open "realmlist" table in the "realmd" database and change the "address" cell to your external IP, then, if applicable, forward ports 3724 and 8085 on your router and/or firewall."
and that's exactly what I did.
If anyone knows the problem or possibly how to fix it, it would be much appreciated. I'm new to the site so I don't know much about rep or how to give it but if anyone is able to help me out I'll figure out how to rep you up for sure.
Also let me know if there's any specific files I should post to let you look at.
