I agree with Deeth. We need a list that covers all the bases. If we give it every option, how can it go wrong...

In a nutshell:
- Confs. Only the ascent-realms.conf file should point to your domain. Listens should be on 0.0.0.0, the connection between your world and logon should go through the loopback and not through your domain.
- Forward your ports. A common pitfall here is to forward the ports to a certain internal IP, and then find out your PC's internal IP has changed. You can fix it by going to network connections -> IPv4 properties -> Use this IP address: and input the internal address you want to use.
- Hosts file. Bind your domain to your loopback.
These are the basic things you need to do, and they work in most cases. You'll need to change more things if your layout is more complex, i.e separating the mysql server from the world/logon, or separating everything completely.
I dont relly understand much about networking.
in the Hosts folder, the IP # 127.0.0.1 is the localhost, what does "yourdomain.net" refer to and how does it apply. I dont know what to put there.
If this needs to be the name of the domain i am on, i need to know that and how to find that information.
this may be the problem.
This is exactly what mine looks like right now.
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 yourdomain.net <<<I think i need to change that somehow ?!?!~
::1 localhost
didnt see your reply when i posted this... ill review...
ok, that makes sence.
Just a couple more questions and i think we will have this nailed down.
My questions are.
Do need ICS running?
What spacificly should i change in Network Connections?
I tried Hamachi Properties.
I found Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
IN Properties under "Obtain an IP address automaticly (what was set)
I attempted to change to Use the folowing and set 127 as the first # and get the following
IP addresses starting with 127 are not valid because they are reserved for loopback addresses.
So i changed it back to obtain automatic
below it has "Obtain DNS server automatically"
I changed this to Use following and set prefered as 127.0.0.1
I did nothing with advanced settings.
No results. Restarting comp and retrying.
I really appreciate the help. also drop instructions for giving rep
we're close to the solution. You were right tho, it was set to obtain automaticly. Id prefer the hardwired aproach.
Oh, you're using hamachi? Bad call in my opinion, would give you far more issues than using the real way. I'll set up a detailed guide soon
after going through all of this, it doesn't seem like it should be so hard and every time i apply your suggestions and review everything, it seems like it should work.
My friends say the server is great and all the world settings are in effect and work fine.
my loopback just isn't consistant.
stops at "connected"
Please post a link when you get the guid up so people who read this can find it.
(inclooding me):lmao:
if your friends can log in you should use realmlist 127.0.0.1 on wour wow so easy is it
that worked
not expecting it to keep working tho. we'lol see.:nervous:
Ok, i have a problem my port 3724 will not forward, is it really needed? It sayd problem with another conflict with another service. I tried deleteing all my port forwars and redoing it, same thiong, i see nothing in my port forwards, or triggers, that would mess with that, i also disabled the DMZ thing (which i recently found out i wasnt supposed to do) and its still not working.. idk how to do this, ill post my confs if you need them.
~~~this is making it public, my server runs fine, but noone can get on~~~~
Thanks for all the help so far, Spidey. I see why you have more than 250 rep :P
My only question is where can I get to Network Connections/IPv4 Config? Would the number be around 192.168.x.xxx?
Yeah, please get that full guide out soon :P
EDIT:
I've located the problem. It's that my router's firewall was blocking them. I have all the ports forwarded... am using a d-link router, I believe. Anyone know how to disable specific ports on the router firewall?
it should have an option to dissable the firewall, it does on mine, disable it.
Yea, this is crazy... it worked fine for 3 or 4 logins, and now same thing.
it just stops working.
