Maybe your just getting the realmloop bug try hitting enter a billion times really fast and see if it goes to char select finally.. if so.. lookup a post on how to make a local host realm and a External ip one. that will help with the realmlooping..

ALl of your ports must be configured correctly if your friends can log on from THEIR houses..

What should work is:

go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
open your hosts file and search for this line:

127.0.0.1 localhost
now DONT touch that one, just add a line below it like this:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(YourLanIp) xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (your server IP (No-ip address, dynDns address, whatever you're using))

then try connecting again

it should look something like this: (NOTE THAT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE!!!!!!)
127.0.0.1 Localhost
192.168.1.2 yourserver.whatever.net
