Ok this is for all of you people who do not seem to get the picture that Antrix and Ascent are the Same thing, the only difference is the name, THEY CHANGED IT.
Quote from Ascent Official Website-
Here is a quote from Emupedia on the new Changes and team reforming-Ascent is a revolutionary new emulator based mainly on community involvement, and a hard working team. Everyone is free to download the source code and make their own server to their own liking. However, the team itself does not provide databases or content, but we have a dedicated community who strive to bring you the best content available. Sign up to our forums today, and experience Ascent for yourself. If you need any help in setting up our software, feel free to check the wiki, or ask on the forums, there are plenty of people who will be glad to help you.
A new beginning - Burlex on 07/27/2007
The antrix team has reformed as the new Ascent team.
Another quote from Emupedia -Dear emupedia users,
I'm here to tell you guys some good news. Since Ive left Ive seen a lot of hate being generated in this community for a lost cause. People backstabbing each other this community has been lost for a VERY long time. Blizzard has pigeonholed us into this horrible community that has generated enemies within it due to the fear of lawyers etc.
We the community have forgotten why we were here for in the first place.People doing stuff in secret because no one else can be trusted. I personally joined the emulation community to have fun and be able to learn something but it totally changed over years, the goals were completely different. For some reason this has become a competition on whose the best and bashing each other up to a point of getting rid of them for their own ego. I'm not proud of what Ive done in the past either, Ive done things that I wish wouldn't have.
Another thing that has come to my attention is the need for making profiting off peoples work its totally destroyed many developers motivation to continue. Just put yourself in that position, spending countless hours and hard work while another person profits from your work("hey why am I not getting paid for my work and someone else is").
Fortunately, theres a solution to every problem . Antrix Project is reforming and also creating a unique community with new priorities, goals and better ethics which will be renamed to Team Ascent. In this community everyone is welcomed to join. Team Ascent strives to provide the best emulator available and help people to gain knowledge through our wiki and willing to help any programmers with their questions. Lets all unite and contribute to this wonderful cause, we ask all major community hosts to cooperate also. We will also have a "donation" button this time for people to feel free to donate money to the team.
Team Ascent will also be hosting an official project server which will have the latest build which will be tested for a week before its committed to the public SVN. The only difference of the public and private SVN will be a week worth of tested code, we will not hide any features or from the public. Team Ascent is proud to announce this and we hope for an awesome community.
I finally apologize for not having uber grammer skillz.
Keep watch for announcement on website launch soon.
Team Ascent - Project Leader Burlex
What is Ascent?
Ascent is a server package for World of Warcraft. It does NOT contain any data from Blizzard's software, or any of their official servers content.
Official website of Ascent: hxxp://www.ascentemu.com
What is it written in?
Ascent is written completely in C++.
For that reason our recommended compilers are: Visual Studio .Net Professional 2003 (you can use 2005 as well - note: we do not distribute these compilers, you will have to obtain them yourself, requesting/distributing them on these forums is strictly prohibited and is a bannable offense.
How does it perform?
The server has been tested with over 1000 clients without any flaws or missing a beat.
What is the database backend?
Ascent uses a MySQL or PostgreSQL backend. Support for Oracle is possible through polymorphism.
How is the server extendable?
The server is extendable through external binary scripts for extra AI, and world scripting, now includes the powerful gamemonkey scripting engine.
Who makes this kickass product?
You don't need to know. We perfer to stay anonymous. Do not post questions regarding the authors of this software.
Great, so how can I get a hold of this?
svn://emupedia.com/svn/ascent/
A recommended client for the above link would be TortoiseSVN [please google it ]
Binary releases are unsupported. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, PEOPLE CAN PUT VIRUSES IN THEM EASILY. BUILD YOURSELF, YOU LAZY PEOPLE!
You can also view the changelog with TortoiseSVN by right clicking the folder selecting TortoiseSVN -> Show Log.
Alternatively you can hang out on Ascent IRC (see below) and the bot CIA-1 will post the changes for every new revision.
How can I help out?
You can either help out by posting detailed bug reports in the bug section of this forum, or by posting source code patches in the appropriate sections. These will be reviewed and added by developers manually. If you have contributed a lot of source code patches, we may consider you for svn access.
Where can I discuss matters regarding to this project?
What advantages does this have over other servers? The Public IRC Channel for this project is located on the Emupedia IRC network, at emupedia.com / #ascent. This can be joined by typing the following into your browser: irc://emupedia.com/ascent
- Server core fully accessable via high-performance scripts.
- Low memory usage.
- 100% multithreaded with asyncronous database access, so no time is spent blocking, and makes full use of today's multi-core technology.
- Easily developable database via ingame commands.
- GM system based on flags, rather than command levels.
- High-performance network code on all platforms (FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows).
- Most game features working!
- Tried and tested code.
- Easy, non-confusing database structure.
- Want to know more? Try it for yourself.
The team does NOT support databases. We provide an empty database for you to work from, and that is all.
If you wanna advertise this, however we advise against it, please link directly to THIS THREAD. Give credit, ya bloody slackers
