Got a question. I might be router stupid... but I don't know where to find it on my computer. I've looked everywhere from network connections to deep searching in the forbidden window's files.
I am at the point where I don't want to touch anything for fear of breaking something :*(
Help
Don't worry, everyone was a newbie at one point. Anyways, let's get straight to the point.
Each router has different methods of forwarding ports. So what you'll want to do is find your router model on this site PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall, and then the game you wish to port forwards on (in this case, World of Warcraft).
Each router has it's own guides for forwarding ports for different games, so read it carefully there.
But before you can even do that you need to access your router, which is pretty easy. The most commonly used IP address for routers is 192.168.*.1 (second lot of digits can vary though). But to find out just follow the steps below.
1. Go Start > Run and then type in "cmd" (without quotes) and push Enter.
2. Once that has loaded, type in "ipconfig" (again, without quotes) and press Enter.
3. Now you will see a bit of information displayed about your connections. What you want to look for is the "Default Gateway" number (usually under either Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection or Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection).
4. Get that number and type it into the address bar of your browser (so for me, I'd type in 10.0.0.1 - to anyone who understands all this; it's a pretty screwed up address, pretty stupid router though).
5. It should come up with a login box. The default details are usually "admin" (without quotes) for both username and password but there are variables for certain routers (for example, most Netgear ones have the username admin, and the password; password).
If you can't find it either ring the manufacturer of the router or your ISP (ringing the manufacturer is recommended and I would only ring the ISP if the ISP issued me with the router). That or check the router's manual for help as well.
6. Look for your router on PortForward.com, look for the guide on forwarding ports for WoW and then follow it step by step and you should hopefully succeed in forwarding your ports (hell I can't, I know how to but it doesn't bloody work for my stupid router lol).
Hrmm... I went to the Portfoward.com and could not find my router. I am running a Time Capsule from APPLE. The only option for APPLE is the airport extreme.
Also, your default gateway is interesting. Mines 10.0.1.1
I type that in my address bar for my browser... and it gives me a "cannot find page" page. No login box.
help
please note btw, *edited* i'm running a windows XP home with the apple
*Edit* the Portforward.com doesn't actually have my router in there. I would suppose that's a big problem. I'm looking for a Motorola Surfboard SB4200.
