Since i've registered as a user in MMOWNED, i've seen many (i mean MANY) posts complaining that they have followed a certain guide to get their server public but they couldn't actually perform it.
I know the reasons (i learned them today) and i'm writing this so others who don't know can know them.
To start this brief report about how internet works, lemme explain some things.
Your Computer (either PC1 or PC2) connects through a telephone line to a large area network, within your country. This is done using a MO/DEM
-Mo/dem?
-Yeah. modem actually means Modulator/Demodulator . In a few words it translates the computer "language" into a suitable one that can travel through telephone lines to another computer, which will demodulate (translate) it, so that that computer can actually obtain that information.
Now , using the modem (as we stated) your computer connects to a bigger Computer. That's your ISP (Internet Service Provider) .
Your ISP has reserved a slot for you (after submiting an application for it to do so)and each time you connect to him, it gives you a special "internet" address (IP) for him to recognise you. Most of the ISP provide constantly changing addresses (dynamic IP) while others provide stable addresses (static IP) and if they don't, you can get one by paying some few extra money.
While you are connected to your ISP, you transmit and receive information from it (download/upload) through the telephone line , and communicate with the internet.
Users who receive your data are doing exactly the same things. That means that the internet connects these two users, regardless of ISP.
-SPEK INGLIS PLZ DUD!
-All that your PC does is connect with a modem through the telephone lines to an ISP and then to the internet, sending/receiving information at the same time.
Now let's see what happens when people can't host online.
A standart ISP subscriber has agreed to have a single (or more ) IP addresses booked to the ISP's system. The user with that ISP can send and receive data with a set speed.
In "Ascent" the .exe program named "Logonserver" (yep that one that you can configure through the .txt file named the same) actually TRANSMITS data broadband through the internet.
Yep , that's it.That's the problem. That has always been the problem. Take the papers those dudes gave you when you submitted your application for an ADSL line...it doesn't refere to anything like "Transmiting"...that means that you weren't wrong on configurations. All that time, it has been your ISP!

Hamachi:
Hamachi is a lightweight program that actually creates a virtual lan on the internet, allowing users to connect to that program directly forming a Virtual Lan.
Virtual Local Area Network is nothing more than a process that makes your computer think that you're connected to a LAN...a very wide lan i'd say.

Upgrading an ISP:
If you're desperate enough to host a server, you can try calling your ISP and asking from them to enable this service. This will come with a cost, since something like that costs 3 times the cost of a simple ADSL connection.
I hope i helped youAny other questions regarding these matters? Post them here.
