1) MaNGOS is
NOT an emulator. It is a learning project designed to apply to any MMORPG.
2) The MaNGOS project is
NOT about playing a game. The MaNGOS project is about learning how to
program a game. The fact that many people have tried to turn it into more than that is not the fault of the MaNGOS team. Anyone focused more on "playing a game" than on development is in the wrong place.
3) The MaNGOS project is not interested in having the coolest, most popular, or most sought after application. The only thing the project is interested in is learning how to make a better MMORPG application.
4) If you are expecting MaNGOS to replace an experience you may have had with a retail or online game, then you will be sorely disappointed. Retail and pay-to-play online games are there to create a unique gaming experience for their customers. MaNGOS is nothing of the sort in any way and is not provided for entertainment or any other purpose than learning how to program a MMORPG.
5) If you are a novice to computer programming, have never worked on troubleshooting applications, or have never done much more than used "install and go" applications, then MaNGOS is not for you. MaNGOS is a very complex application that requires a great deal of maintenance, troubleshooting, and most importantly, patience.
6) If you are unable or unwilling to investigate your own bugs, use some basic logic, and work towards helping yourself fix your own problems, you will not find a receptive audience on this site. However, if you are detailed and thoughtful in your questions and show that you are making a legitimate attempt to solve yours or other members problems you will be greeted with open arms.
7) MaNGOS is a development project in an alpha phase.
This means that there should be no expectations regarding it's abilities, capacity, or stability. It also means that you are using the application
at your own risk.

We acknowledge that each and every one of us was a "n00b" at some point. What makes the difference is how you embrace the project and the learning experience. If you want someone to hold your hand through each step, you
will not be welcomed. But if you challenge yourself and other members to troubleshoot issues logically to find good solutions for all of us you will quickly become a welcome part of the community.
Strong reading comprehension skills are a necessity.
9) The MaNGOS project does not take responsibility, nor is it interested in what other forums allow or don't allow, promote or don't promote, do or don't do. The MaNGOS team is only interested in what we are doing at
this site for
this project.
10) Asking a question on a subject that can easily be found via a forum search will not be reacted to well and is viewed as a sign of laziness and/or reading comprehension issues. Neither of which is welcome. Read this post for more details.
Here are some additional copyright specific comments from one of the project managers:
1) "MaNGOS is a universal MMORPG server" and "It is not developed for a specific client" means that any specific client and copyrighted content discussions are prohibited and unwelcome here.
1.1) It is not allowed to mention (and therefore to discuss) any names taken from a specific game client (item, NPC, or any other copyrighted, client related names).
1.2) It is not allowed to mention or discuss the specific client's developer company and/or anything related to it.
1.3) It is not allowed to discuss the copyrighted client modifications or publish openly any modified/pure client related content. Client images are not allowed to be posted on the forum; use links to an external host or resource for that instead.
2) "MaNGOS is a
universal MMORPG server" and it means that MaNGOS is an independant licensed server software and
is not an emulator of any kind, as it is not made to emulate anything or to work with a specific client (as stated in point 1. above).
2.1) It is not allowed to call MaNGOS an emulator or compare it to an illegal software of any kind.
2.2) It is not allowed to discuss any other development projects, except MaNGOS itself and any projects associated to it. It is strictly recommended not to talk about
illegal software developed for a specific client (therefore an emulator).
2.3) It is not allowed to host public MaNGOS servers (as stated in the "End-User License Agreement"
here), that is, if you're planning to open a game-server and use MaNGOS as an emulator for a specific client - beware, that it's a direct rule and license violation and you will not receive
any help or support from MaNGOS team or it's associates. Any related questions and posts are strongly disapproved here.
