LAN'ing up 3 PCs while not on the internet

Here's the setup, I'm going to a buddy's house and we're gonna mess around on my server. Internet is unavailable at his house atm, so it's two laptops and my desktop pc. We have a wireless router plugged in and functioning (connection to router fine, none to internet) and was wondering what we'd adjust the realmlist to in order for them to connect. I'd assume having no connection to the net wouldn't be an issue at all. Right now I use 127.0.0.1 on my PC, but I imagine it'd be different with others trying to connect. I'm still new to IPs and things like that. So correct me if I'm dumb anywhere and toss in a post if you know where/how to do this. I know it's less of a server question and more of a network management one, but I didn't know where else to post it. Learned a lot from the site so far guys, keep it up. Need any clarification or the wording is wrong let me know. -Thanks, Gandair

Re: LAN'ing up 3 PCs while not on the internet

I hope you're familiar with the TCP/IP protocol?
Each and every client(device) on a network requires an IP adress in order to properly operate on that network.
Most likely you'll have an IP-range in the 192.168.0.0 net.

What this means is that You're computer will have an ip-adress such as "192.168.0.1" to identify it on the network. 127.0.0.1 is what's called a loopback IP ( its used to connect your machine to.. your machine lol ), so ignore that.

What should be in the other connecting computers realmlist.wtf is the IP your computer is using to identify itself on the network.

In order to find out what your IP-adress is, execute the following commands:

    Go to start
    Go to Execeute
    Write "CMD" , click OK.
A new command prompt will open, in here we write:
ipconfig (/all if you have multiple network cards)
You will get a result showing you several settings in your network card, one of which is the IP adress.

Now.. simply put that adress in your friends realmlist.wtf, boot your server and away you go!.

    on a sidenote:

Be sure to check that you have no internal firewall possibly blocking the communication, check in your configurationscreen if Windows Firewall is enabled.

    Good luck!
