WoW abyss2 Alpha server not working

i have a problem with the 2003 alpha client and abyss2 server.

i start up the server with the realmlist localhost and the spawn point in stormwind ( i tried them all).
then i start up wow with my -uptodate shortcut and log into the Abyss Server.
Then i make a character and enter the world.
when i get on the character it has no gear and none of the commands work except for !god.
there are no npcs, and my character cant do anything except run around doing nothing.
is there a different server i can use or is this just my game client ?
Also when i open the abyss exe file and go to options and set it all up, i think it doesnt save.
maybe thats the problem
