True it hasn't, but it sure has changed ALOT of things to make it harder for private servers to emulate.
Im not going to start listing them but if you are deving new client change patches, you'l see. Blizzard makes changes which have no sense at all, and the thing works perfect with current system, yet they change it to alot more complicated one.
Blizzard is not even allowed to "stop" private servers without coming up with a case.
It would be the same if i closed down a host because it was illegle, and i do not even have permission to do it.. So its illegle.
Thats also why they cant close a server down.
Because a Private Server is paying for a Host, and they just cannot closedown the Host without their Permission to.
Blizzard could just break up the dev teams and make em sign up the contract which wont let them to work anything related to wow anymore, if they wish not to go to court. Wouldnt be the first time.
Won't be a problem at all. MapleStory PSes run with custome launchers and it's no problem.
/dnd leeching
There is no since of removing private servers 80% of people on private servers either cant afford or wont pay for it so either way they most likely wont pay so why should they spend there cash trying to take out private servers when they end up getting nothing from it
What I cant figure out is why they just dont hide the files into one of the .MPQ files. I mean until we mind a way to decrypt them lol. I just dont know why they have not tried that yet.
Immortal GamerZ Under Development!
MPQ? MPQ files are just binary files containing server data such as WMO, WDT, ADT, DBC, etc. You could just read the file and edit it.
Lol wut. What I cant figure out is why they just dont hide the files into one of the .MPQ files. I mean until we mind a way to decrypt them lol. I just dont know why they have not tried that yet.

Blizzard is only as good as their programmers. Anyone that is VERY STRONG in many programming languages will be able to develop options to bypass any blocks blizzard has planned. I mean, come on, Patch 3.1 is making it extremely difficult for Emulators to keep up, but Naxpgaming.com has already patched up, Even before MaNGOS and ArcEMU have released an update. Everything is crackable![]()
Seriously. Something made by man can be hacked by another man. There will always be someone smarter out there than the programmers. Just like people hacking the government. It can be done and there is nothing they can do. Except fix the exploit as it comes up.
If they want to end WoW emulation they'll just cease using realmlist.wtf and encrypt the address in the World of Warcraft executable. This would destroy nearly every private server, because the only way you'll be able to prevent it would be to change your host file (unless we don't know the address. Assuming they change it and we can't find it in the executable that won't work), or hack the WoW executable. Only maybe, 2% of the private servers out there right now would be able to do that, unless someone released a public tool to do it. Even so, I doubt the majority of players are going to start using cracked executables. On top of that, private servers are a gray area so its very difficult to prosecute emulator owners. However, if you actually modify their game executable i'd imagine that, at lesat in the US, it would be fairly easy for them to come after you.

For those who are interested, the B.NET login info is stored inside the CVars which could be modified within the Console. On the side note, the realmlist is also stored inside the CVars -> C:\WoW\WTF\Config.wtf
