they care about the dumb****s who offer bliz servers with no other intention then letting people play for free or people who have a donation for items setup.

the way i see it its a good thing all the big servers are dying. live is damn good and if thats whut you wish to play then pay for it.

again. they wont shut me down because my server wont adervtise its 9 slots left after my rl friends make accounts. also like i said (but i must say again to stop stupid posters) my server wont get shut down and neither will yours. as long as you dont attract undue attention. like "oh my vote for us to be on the top 100 list of most blatent bliz like private servers".

also as far as legality goes i have heard from a very knowledgable (but not a lawer or such) friend that private servers are legal as long as money is not exchanged and they dont claim to be blizzard/world of warcraft.
although that could just be wishfull thinking on his sources part.

and finaly to end my giant wall o dont post stupid shit post. dont post hysteria of anykind unless u have fact checked it first.
yeh this guy is right they will not bother with the small servers will cost way to much money as people now can just get a faster connection and a better computer and walla they have a dedi simple as, they cant exactly tell a internet provider to shutdown your internet, coz really how many is there out there now in england there is like 20 different providers, god knows how any in the whole of europe or usa, could you be bothered to spend money to but something like this in action against something that is no threat to you look at mutinyWoW they are classed as a small server bout 200max on at one time very rarely gets higher then 300 and they are affilated with arcemu. I personally think all the big server wowscape, toxic ect have been in it that long have got loaded of it then decided its finally time to stop because if you look at them email things that are going round there fake, vocab..spelling mistakes all that can be found in there. if you have ever had a email of blizz there is not one wrong thing with them everything is perfect. If you think logically about this heroicwow for instance is all over mmowned and blizz know about this website and they can hold 20k players ffs lol i think thats more of a threat then anything else and nothing is happening to them, at the end of the day everyone is just digging holes to find out the truth id just leave it as a myth like last time they where went to shut them down.

Some of us go for accuracy. It's difficult enough finding a stable core to build off from, a crisp & clean DB to match it well, and to put the time adding scripts & DB elements yourself.

There are a few projects I've seen here to customize that looked great, including HeroicWoW, and I remember something here called "escape from alcaz island" that looked promising but most of them are globby messes of plot holes, glitchy spells & items, and noobs who act like PvP Gods that wouldn't hack it on retail.

I strive for a balance between my server being virtually indistinguishable from one of Blizz's, and a little less time to reach 80 with items on AH being a little cheaper.

You guys are aware that in the 3.0.3 client there is a packet that notifies Blizzard if there is a connection using their client that is not to one of their servers. It then sends the IP address of that server to Blizzard, then they just look you up and send you a DMCA. That simple. Of course, they will only do this if a large number of connections is inbound, otherwise it would be a waste of time. If you own a large server you are only safe if your server is hosted in a country that is not a part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Had a server that had custom lore from 1-80. Really great lore actually, then a past staff member decided to act immature and hack our VPS so most of the lore part died. I would like to start it back up again, i just don't know if i can trust anyone anymore. To be honest we got control back over the VPS but now he threatens us with breaking back into it at any time. What has the world come to...

Actually the RUMOR about Blizzard doing that hasn't been proved right or wrong. You'd see the packet being sent when starting up the client and logging in(Use a packet sniffer.. wireshark would show it). But in theory it would be very easy for Blizzard to compare two IPs(US + EU) to all the other ones out there and check the inbound connections.

This is basically the same thing as someone telling you that if you run windows on your computer the world will explode unless proven.

I love these big brother conspiracy theories. And how exactly are they sending a DMCA when all they have is an IP address? Unless you have the IP space registered to you and not the provider that owns it(highly unlikely) and are stupid enough to register ACTUAL contact information under it then all they have is a single IP address.

For those who don't know of a safe country to host a server in, look in Malaysia, or Egypt .
