[Project] Putting an end to topsites--Would YOU help?

I would fist like to point out that this is a rather long post, but I would recommend that you read it all before posting... if you don't want to read then don't post.

    Foreword--

Well, I am sure that most of you know that topsites are the bane of many a server owner's existence. They only care about the servers who already have a large community and they neglect the little guy, but I have a plan to change this.

    The Idea
This section talks about my train of thought before coming up with this whole idea.
This all started when I said to myself "You know, vote popups really suck..." and that's when I realized that it could all be ended by putting an end to topsites. I sat around for about an hour brainstorming all the ideas I could muster on ways to remove topsites and I thought... how about a website that is free to use (like the topsites) but does not order the servers based on votes.

And that is pretty much what got me going. First I said... how about a giant forum, but that wouldn't work out; forums arn't a good way of advertising private servers to new players (even though they are great for moving bored existing players). But, I did know that forums did have a nice way of ordering topics by recent posts. So I thought, how about a system that bumps servers like a giant thread?

    The Structure
This section talks about how this whole website will be structured.
Now that I had an idea, I could imagine it all working. The website will be broken down into three separate lists (servers can only be on one of the lists)-

    -Funservers
    -Blizzlike
    -Fully Custom (Theory) Servers

Each section will act like a topsite in the fact that 50 listings will be on a page and each server can have a banner, title, and discription, but also so extra info that the topsites neglect (server age, server type, server emu, videos [yeah I said it.] etc.) However... unlike topsites, votes will not be the means of "moving" servers. It will be based on a system called bumps, this means that anybody can be on the top. However, each IP bump a server once every 6 hours to avoid from spamming. The server bumping will also be regulated by the newest captcha technology which will be updated weekly, in other words, there will be NO BOTS to mess up the legitimacy of the site.

After getting this all figured out, I still felt like I was leaving out the little man. But then I found a way to end the reign of the big servers once and for all, each newly created server will be on the top of the list for a day after creating a listing. The system will be regulated by only allowing one listing per a URL.

    The Realization
Should I do it? -- Its up to you; the community
Well... I have the time and the skill required to make this work but I know that this isn't going to be possible unless the server owners advertise on it. This could turn out to be a big waste of time. So, I want to know if you guys would support a new system to take out the topsites?

Well... that ends my rant, If I get enough server owners to say that they will use this resource or some MMOwned support (as in from admins) I will definately do everything in my power to get this up and functional within a month.

Anyone who would like to lend a hand to the coding of this project please PM me or contact me on MSN: [email protected]

Feel free to post your opinions here.

EDIT ONE: This project WILL be happening, gg topsites

EDIT TWO: Screenshot of under development website, hope it doesnt disappoint

This sounds real cool finally toxic and wowscape etc wont be on top, ehh but it seems flawed someone could get a bunch of ipchangers etc and keep on bumping maby you could do it like=Thier will be certin times you can bump like every 6 hours bumping is open for 1 hour, however your ip can only bump every 50 min maby that would work but idk.

Well, things can be done to prevent IP changers... its just the topsites do a horrible job managing things. And honestly... do you think someone would sit there for several hours bumping his/her site and changing the IP... rember that servers will be bumping constantly as the site grows... every time you refresh the page the list would change.

Imho this wont stop people from using the topsites. Most of people would propably just use topsites because they think WoWscape is cool.
But indeed that is nice idea. Sadly, I don't know anything that could help you with it

it is interesting and it could work if you had enough people backing you up. You would have to get some of the top servers to get into it also. but i have a question, would you have it so that "guests" can bump or members only? cause if its "guests" then it could just be a bot that would change its ip then bump again. I know it may be annoying to register, so maybe you could just do something where its very quick/ painless to register, and have it so that each member can vote once every six hours, and allow only one account per ip. That stops bots (if you add in some stuff where bots cant register) and so that a person who wishes to use proxies or something would have to keep registering to just get 1 vote, rather than just being able to bump. Just my thoughts.

It would be interesting, but today where does everyone go to get info for private servers? XtremeTop100.com - Gaming top 100 list because if your server is populated your server is on top there, imo.

Have you good sir ever heard of a captcha? It is that little annoying bit of picture/text that you have to type when you vote/register for alot of website activity. These are there to stop bots, xtreme top 100s captchas are REALLY bad and they never change them... it takes about 4-5 days of solid work to crack a crappy captcha so if I change it weekly this shoulnt be a problem... bots and all.

I was iffy about the idea. I skimmed through what you had to say. I am for it. But it seems your idea is quite similar to that oh www.wowstatus.net | World Of WarCraft - Private Server Status | your source for private WoW servers

Correct my if I am mistaken, but it is similar. I would rather that these sites exist primarily though. It lets the people control what sites should be at the top. It should be done!

EDIT: I continues to read your writing. You're quite brilliant. I say go on with the idea. It similar to www.wowstatus.net | World Of WarCraft - Private Server Status | your source for private WoW servers but not exactly the same, that is why it is similar. I support your idea and would love to become a part of it! I can put your link in my Advertisment guide as well!

Great idea... I would have never thought of doing that lol... And i think everyone is fed up of seeing "Toxic WoW" and "Wowscape" at the top of every Flipping Topsite out there!

I say go through with it! But it will be hard for you to push them topsites out of the lists. Because if you google "Wow private" you only see the most popular ones, so its gonna take some doing and advertising. would be cool if this works, because Everyone that creates a new server doesn't have a chance of getting a reasonable population because of the topsites only putting the most populated Servers on the site.

Unless you name the website "WoW private" or something close, so it will be easier for people looking for a Private server to find this website and it will give lower populated servers a chance to be populated and create a name for themselves!

Yeah, thats the problem... and its the whole reason why I posted here before just making the site.

Yes, the problem with wowstatus is that it is very ugly and lacks that server initiative. Also, wow status doesn't give room to post a banner and other server info.

I am going to go ahead and go with this idea, if any of you posses a skill in PhP I am greatly requesting help.. this site is going to need alot of work and I am just one person. I will be posting new info as It comes.

Imo, Extreme Top only cares about the $ as toxicwow avg 1500-2000 players.. the votes don't make any logical sense, I bet Extreme knows they're Netboting or Ip chaning for votes.
