    Hamachi Fails

Yeah, this is been known. But i always see advertisements for server and they use Hamachi. If you have to use Hamachi i recommend NOT hosting a server.

95% of the time no more then 10 people will be on at a time if you get that lucky. And donations would be extremely limited.

So save yourself the trouble and dont host one if you have to use hamachi

Hamachi is OK for small private servers. Maybe to test things out or maybe to see if your server can handle anyone at all. There are advantages to Hamachi, but the major disadvantage is that Hamachi is OVER limited. People using Hamachi should switch over to the real world of DNS. It's actually easier too. When servers become populated, Hamachi also begins to get annoying for the HOST and the PLAYER.

In the long run, only use Hamachi for testing purposes. Hamachi serves quite well in this field only.

Not to mention the overhead involved in the encryption/decryption process, you are just chewing up extra electricity, because you are too lazy to do a port forward.

And the most funny part of Hamachi, is that its more complicated and involved than just doing the port forward to begin with!@#!

Hamachi is good for testing with Emu servers.

I use it ALL THE TIME to play games that I don't err... own.... with other friends who don't own them either. (You can play over LAN using it) It's great for that. Not good for fully hosting an Emu server.

its not even really good for testing, again you can do things much quicker by just setting up the port forward...

    even with a testing environment,

but yes it is good for LANning with 'unkosher' games, lol

Why do people even use hamachi, its faster to forward ports... and its faster for people to connect. I have been doing emulation for atleast three years and never downloaded hamachi :P

because, despite the fact that it is more involved, a borderline retard can download Hamachi and get things rolling with it...

It's all "graphical" and shit, whereas it requires about 2 iota's of thought to do a port forward...

Its the same reason that there are Microsoft servers out there, because people are too stuipd to type a few things on a command line, or use something like cPanel to manage their server...

Well... I think that the moral of the story is that:

"If an admin cant wrap his/her brain around forwarding ports then... you shouldnt waste your time with that server"

Hamachi is good for the lazy newb. Think about it people. The lazy newb wants the easy way out. But in reality, Hamachi is the hard way in.

Eh, what can I say. I play devils advocate. You never know what I'm thinking!

EDIT: Wait no I didn't. I just added on to my previous thought from last night.

My conclusion: Hamachi for myself is not needed at this time. It is good for newbs that are trying out new repacks, servers, cores, dbs, etc. It's easy to use for one to ten people. It's not good for anything else than testing a small amount of people.

Hamachi Advantage: Testing server in general
Hamachi Disadvantage: Not good for professional use. Not good for servers with large population of players.
