    server hardware?

greetings, i have a question about hardware capacity for a WoW private server. i want to start advertising for my server to get players, i need an estimate of the hardware i need to have a lot of players online without lag. it should be able to handle over 500 players online at the same time. these are my computer specs

    processor: amd turion 64x2 2.00GHz
    memory: 2047 mb
if my os matters, 32 bit vista home

as of internet; basic dsl 768 Kbps downstream connection

last question, what creates lag? is it when a lot of computers trying to all access your computer at the same time, but you only have a very limited bandwidth like mine of 768 Kbps? or am i totally off?

    thanks in advance, ronald.

Yeah, if you have the money, purchase a dedicated server.
iWeb.com has some good deals for budgets, make sure to get decent processor ram and port speed though!

very nice, thanks for the info. just so that i get this clear, i will need to buy a decent server, as for bandwidth i heard 100mbps would be good for around 500 players? where i live 8mbps goes for 35$ a 100mbps would umm go for.. by any chance, do you know how much people are paying for a 100mbps line? a rough estimate would be awesome, i know it varies from the place you live.

You could hold 40-50w/o lag. Don't buy a 100mb connection pay monthly for a dedicated server for around 120 a month.
