WotLK - Discussion, Possibilities, F+F Beta, Private Servers

my opinion is that this beta is just either a teaser or maybe a trick, nothing really useful can come out of this yet, no core yet will support it, no private servers and such, and maybe blizzard is doing somthing that we dont know about or maybe theyre not, we cant tell right now, but for right now it just seems to be a teaser

Your players will still need to download a 2.5gb patch, which personally and i speak for alot of people would not bother to wait to download this.

I believe there is another motive behind this so called "leak". As you may or may not know, Age of Conan is scheduled for release this week (May 21 I believe). You think that it was on accident that the F&F Alpha was released 2 days before and also the opening of beta.worldofwarcraft.com? And to have the DL link be so availible that its just a simple link? beta.worldofwarcraft.com/expansion, if you take a look at that site, the sign up for the alpha F&F is right there.
The leak was intended for us to find it, and spread it around massively. For what reason, we can only guess. My rthought is to elimate 1 of the 2 biggest PC gaming threats to them, Age of Conan and Warhammer. I guarentee you that as soon as we get a hard date on Warhammer, we'll shortly see a date for WotLK.
It is also very possible that it could be to massively banned. But I did log into F&F Alpha with two accounts. My level 50 warlock, an account in which I had also botted on. And my level 70 shaman which was not banned and still not banned(no bots). This Alpha server goes no where. As you recall we did not have the alpha for TBC until AFTER the beta. There is nothing on these servers, but it is possible to extract some type of private server from these MPQ's/DBC's etc. This was the public alpha to take the hype off AoC. There is a private alpha server somewhere for the real F&F's.

And, I don't think people are /cry'ing out for a private/public server, they want a Sandbox first, so they can explore Northrend a bit. That can't be too hard, can it? =/

First off, the Age of Conan thing sounds like a possibility. TBC launched right before / right around the time of another LARGE pc game - it couldn't be a coincidence. However, the massive banning spree WAS a coincidence. I haven't got banned, but I have successfully connected to the F+F server, and made a char, got a crashed client, and f*cked over my retail wow (and needed to reinstall.) That is, of course, expectable, considering this;
a) THe full client did not download. The downloader does about 50%, then says "There are no files to download." This has been confirmed when comparing the filesize(s) to someone who had the real F+F. This really is the true leak, however, the explanation is simple. Every single Alpha F+F key has been registered and the linked accounts logged in at least once, reported Blizzard. This caused them to shut down their fileservers for the torrent-themed Downloader, such causing the downloader to stop functioning properly.
As for there is "nothing on these servers", that might be right. But again, that is becxause you don't / won't have the full client. The MPQ's and DBC, on the other hand, are extremely handy, and will give emulator developers a head start. As for the "sandbox vs PS" thing, the idea of a Sandbox shouldn't be too hard, but to create a FULL stable server = uh uh.
As well, making repacks is just plain stupid. -.-

I agree with the private server being a big waste. A sandbox would be much more simpler. But also we are not sure if this is a stable file to start builing upon. We did get some nice goodies to appease us for now, but until a closed beta opens (God knows when, I'm guess late July/early August) we will know nothing for sure. An open beta (highly unlikely, but Blizzard as unpredicatble as it is, who the hell knows) would show us what the expansion will be like. But i would suggest to not start on any cores any time soon. It would be a waste and by the time they become stable or even up, the beta will hit us in the back of the head. Sandbox is the answer (if possible with these dbcs/mqps/)

Best bet, jsut be patient, we'll be playing WotLK before you know it
EDIT: I'm 99% sure that my account banning was due to past gliding (even if it was within 5 minutes of joining the alpha lol)

What? I have the full client installed and ready, i just need a server to connect, i connected to the alpha servers but it wont load my character, it syas its locked and to contact billing and support (obviously i dont have the F&F upgrade on my account)

All we need is the people who make Ascent/Mangos to get a hold of this client and and start working their magic.

(Of course i'm meaning a sandbox, not a full blown server.)

This is kinda possible i guess but you still have to update ascent and i dont think anyone here is smart enough to up date it to WoTlK ready plus your players will need the patch mpq updated and its a beta = many bugs not worth the time just wait for the release. Also making the DB by hand is impossible you'd have to be able to get into the actual server and sniff the entire stuff out for just the DB and its updates.

Anyways might as well delete this thread its not worth the time. It is completely impossible good luck though if you attempt but i dought you can since it will be very very buggy if you actualy made the .01% chance of making the sevrer ready for it and patching your players.

Well i know for one i would like to have a private server over a sandbox just to test the DK abilities on actual creatures, not necessarily for hosting an entire server. So buggy or not I just want a server to myself =)

But being able to explore is one step in the right direction, so gogo sandbox.

Ya no man it will not and cannot happen so dont give your hopes up. A WoTLK server is impossible. Even the greatest minds of the ascent world think it is.
