    [Question] Dedicated Server Setup

Hey, I am wanting to get a server dedicated. So, really tbh, I don't know where to start...I searched google for dedicated servers and found that I can buy some server box thats like 300 bucks a month...ok, so if I order this it comes to my house or something? Or do THEY host it somewhere else? I searched mmowned for "dedicated server setup" and found nadda...so if someone can lead me to a guide that would be helpful or if someone can just tell me some easy steps to get my server dedicated! thanks!

Let me the first to help you out.

When you want to purchase a dedicated server, the place you buy it from basically configures and builds a computer (with the specified configurations made by yourself) and they locate the computer in a place called a datacenter. A datacenter is a type of building that has extremely fast fiberoptic internet networking which is where your server gets attached to.

My recommended datacenters (or place to buy dedicated servers) are Softlayer and Theplanet. (Google them up)

Softlayer has extremely good pricing and they even include 1000Mbit options, as well as they have 3 locations, one in the West coast, one in the middle coast, and one in East coast. They are good for people who have a little more to spend because they don't carry around cheap hardware. Also they put up your servers within 4 hours, they also have EXTREMELY good support.

ThePlanet is a good place for starters, they have low-grade to high-grade hardware and have relativly good support, (lots of bad organization) and they carry 10Mbit to 100Mbit solutions. I would recommend you start your first dedicated server.

But all in all, if you know nothing about dedicated servers I don't suggest you get one because of the risks, you may be spending money on something useless, you could get hacked, having the risk of billing problems, etc. (I put up with it too. We all do.)

Unless you are going to be running a VERY large server with a LOT of traffic on it (and I mean a LOT) you won't be able to take advantage of a 1 GIG connection. A 100MB connection would be fine for the majority of people.

Yeah like I mentioned, Theplanet is a great place to start because of it's lower prices next to softlayer, and it's bigger variety of low-end options.

    Thanks for the rep m8.
