WoW does perform rather good with wine, I've been running wow on linux since 2007, the biggest problem of wow with wine are updates, they tend to fail rather often and cause some errors because of corrupted files other then that I never had wine related problems with WoW, just some GPU related problems, I'd recommand you to never ever use an ati agp card with linux, the drivers are a pice of ****.
Ofcourse the new drivers for ati cards have drastically improved since amd owns ati, amd does indeed care about linux users.

The perceived mouse lag is because Blizzard has not implemented hardware mouse cursor under openGL, at least for its Windows client (I hear the Mac's openGL render path is identical, feature wise, to the Windows' direct3D path). Which means the mouse moves at the same framerate the graphics are being draw, and a mouse moving at low FPS is often perceived as laggy.

But Wine have made great progress in it's Direct3D implementation, nowadays if I want I can run the client with the Direct3D render, everything set to beyond maximum quality, and get the exact same image quality as under Windows, as well as hardware mouse cursor (although framerate does suffer, I believe it's about 30% to 50% lower than on Windows 7 when running with the same beyond maximum quality settings).
