    StarCraft AI Competition

This is probably the wrong forum and I want to appoligize in advance, but no other forum seemed more appropriate to me than this one regarding the topic.

I read the news about 2 weeks ago and just stumbled upon this again and I wanted to share:

    Kotaku
The 2010 conference on Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment (AIIDE) is hosting a StarCraft competition where contestants craft bots to pit against one another in four different tournaments.

The different types of tournament are micro-management, small-scale combat, limited tech tree and full games using StarCraft Brood War 1.16.1. Registration is open between now and September 15, 2010, submission is open from Sept. 15 through Sept. 30 and the actual tournament kicks off October 1 and continues through the AIIDE 2010 Conference.
    StarCraft AI Competition

Again, I found no other forum that deals with bot programming and blizzard games like this one. Best regards.

This sounds pretty cool. I don't know much about StarCraft, but it seems you have to make a pvp bot basically?

Yes but it seems more complex since you have to coordinate gathering resources, teching, exploring/scouting your enemy, judge your enemies strength and act/react accordingly. Alot to keep track of to say the least.

That does seem like it would be very difficult. Would be nice if it were on TV :P I would watch it.

Wow, really cool. Even though Ive never played starcraft. Been running out of ideas lately on what functionality I should put in my bot now. Been playing with the idea of trying neural networks for fighting and steering, just for the fun of it. Anyone here tried that?

NNs and emergent AIs are overkill for a bot. (Not to mention; those 2 types of AIs are mainly for 'learning' based AI)

I know its overkill, I just wondered if someone have experimented with it. One could for example use this as a core rtNEAT. Set up a private server as testbed/learning bed... Where do I buy time...?
