HOWTO: Create a custom patch (e.g. for Cheat Engine)

The most likely scenario is that you have the program running that you are trying to patch. Check the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) to make sure the process is not running.

Another possibility is the file you are patching is in Read-Only mode. Right-click the file and go to Properties. Make sure "Read-only" is unchecked.

Lastly, your virus scanner or other security software may be preventing you from overwriting this file. Try temporarily turning off this protection.

Could any1 recommend a good hex editor? I'm looking on google and can't find a good 1 ( i also know practically nothing about them )

I got problem with hex editors.
Ive downloaded 3, one i didnt understand, and two..
Well i got problem with finding hex/ASCII. Everytime i try to find, and write cheat engine to it, i just get error "String not found"
Anyone know how to fix?

Nice. Everything has a different name, window, taskbar, the other cheat engine references in the code.......except the Cheat Engine.exe in the process list, how do I find that? I am editing CE 5.0


EDIT - I changed the file Cheat Engine.exe to something else and it shows up in the process list with a different name, isn't there a way to take it out of the list?
