The skin gambling era is over
News - In-Game Item Trading Update
Steam just released this post about how they will be sending notices requesting they "cease operations through Steam, and further pursue the matter as necessary"
Skin gambling has run rampant in CS:GO since 2014 and as of recently has caused a ton of drama since a lot of these website owners were gambling on their own websites without clarifying that they in fact own them. This caused H3H3Productions to make a video about one website in particular that caused a community uproar.
Even before this there was a streamer who is known as m0eTV who got caught asking the website he owned 10% equity in to give him the results of future rolls so he knew which way to bet his skins. These people were using the back end of their websites for profit. M0e claimed it was to lose and win at will for entertainment on stream and he never cashed out but regardless it exposed what was truly going on in this industry.
Now everybody is wondering what does this mean for CS:GO? I mean even if you are completely against gambling you cannot deny the fact that skins were a huge piece to the success puzzle. It got people hyped over tournaments, it got them more viewers on Twitch through giveaways, and much more. So does the game lose a lot of players because of this? That's up to you guys and I would love to hear your opinion on the gambling scene in CS:GO as a whole.

Almost Legendary User
I read about something similar. Is it possible perhaps to just have the site deal with another currency to pass around this problem?
Or potentially just makes new accounts? I'm curious to see which sites will survive and which will be put to sleep. As well as seeing what kind of workaround the community will come up with, if any.
Valve said that they are not affiliated with these sites and I of course believe this to be true. However, Valve is making a shit ton of money just from having people gamble.
Exciting time in the world right now! Exciting time.

I've been thinking about this thought, given the policy of this company - they cannt sleep well knowing how much money flies past them.
