Definitely Pandarean brothers and sisters were trying to hide from the world in the mists of totally unknown peace. The mists will refer to the unknown, totally awesome but not well studied culture and history of the Pandas that was not known so far. It has to refer to the mysterious nation that remained silent and behind the walls of mystery, but now because of the cataclysm or even totally new threat they need assistance from both alliance and horde. Two clans - one of proud warriors and one of peacefull druids/shamans is totally possible, adequately with peaceful ones joining alliance ( tauren-race for alliance ) and suspicious warriors joining horde ( night elves of the horde ). Azshara or another old god is a nice guess, but personally I would expect something even more malicious like unknown powerful Panda-Who-Went-Insane or not necessarily a monster, more like a powerful mage or warlock ( we miss those for some time ) that got his hands on some powerful artifact that was held by pandas so far, but now stolen causes a threat to the universe. The idea of pandas is insane and so great considering Dota or HoN presence of those ( Panda as a character is so immersely cute and true-warrior-like samurai master that it's hard to believe the idea can be wrong! ) and the only question that remains is - how blizzard gonna serve them to us.

Personally to me it sounds like a gimmick.I highly doubt that Blizzard would end Cataclysm with 4.3, that would be too anti-climactic.Perhaps they will have their involvement in future patches of Cataclysm? In any case, I don't think that they would solely dedicate an entire expansion to a bunch of anthropomorphic pandas. If anything I speculate that they will be a similar plot device to the Tuskarr if they're implemented at all.
(Oh boy... how wrong I was...)
