Ok. So it seems that the client validates some version info through some GET requests. If those are properly responded the client will start. I thought there is much more behind it but is just a simple config request. If you are banned from blizzard servers you would not be able to start the client unless you redirect the traffic to a different web server and respond to those requests.

So suddenly my client stopped working.
It was all right and I didn't change anything, then one day I tried to play and I got an error: "Unable to load a map".
I'm using 29406 build. Does anyone know what it can be?

Ok. problem is solved. The can't connect error is coming from using manual DNS. Change back to automatic DNS and the game will work.

That is how I fixed it

To change your DNS to automatic (in case someone doesn't know how to) (Win 7 - I don't remember how to do it on XP so help yourself out)
Go to your network and sharing center - click on change adapter settings
Right click on "Local area connection" - hit properties - find Internet protocol version 4 and double click it
Then check " Obtain DNS address automatically"
Done - Tada!

Hi, my DNS was already set on automatic but i still have this problem. I have disabled my firewall, I tried on an other computer with Win7 (I have Win8 ), still this problem I don't understand. Any ideas guys?

I too have met the "unable to load map". This is how I deal with it

When you click begin match and see the error.
Exit and open the game again but this time don't change anything in the HeroConfig (make sure you have already pick all of your choices in it)
Then click begin match. This error happen when you change map or anything in the HeroConfig (mostly the map one - the others are occasional - to me)

I knew about this type of "unable to load map" error that happens when you change things in HeroConfig. Now even if I set everything before opening a game it still cannot load a map. I guess I need to download build once more, maybe some files are gone.

When you click Begin, how long does it take (in seconds) before the loading screen displays? And do you see the special loading screen image for the map you selected (with the map name, Dragon shrine etc), or the generic Raynor loading screen image? If your game takes too long to load, this can happen. Try running in windowed mode?

I think it takes about below 10s for the loading screen pop up. Anh yes, I do see the map image, the map, the side objective, etc... And the loading take below 30s ( coz of low spec pc not the game or the config). And what about the windowed mode ????:confused:

P/S: the only problem with the HeroConfig tool which cause me to reopen the game to play with different settings.

I have the same problem with the 4 new maps and I think it is because I downloaded the map pack for mapswitcher. I can play the new maps without problem with it but since it is an old tool I can only choose between 2 talents. Can anyone re-upload the last map pack to confirm this?

It should be released considering we need it for the WOD Alpha too. It's selfish to withhold such an important tool. It'd be as if someone withheld the tool to open MPQs.

We really need someone to step up and upload the updated Heroes of the Storm Alpha clients.
29666 is the latest version, and it appears that old versions are being removed from the Blizzard CDN resulting in them being unable to launch (I've noticed this with 29406 and 29469). 29360 still works, but its so old. Eventually there won't be any working versions for the public. I would do it myself but I have 30kb/s upload, it takes 3 days of non-stop uploading, lol.

Resolved for me too. Hopefully I can get a key soon though, bots get pretty stale.
