I have the same problem, but keep the mouse on ur icon in the bar for 2-3 seconds and it will show u the xp/H

Try reduce speed. I've not had any problems either. I'm on 20 km/h to hatch eggs and farm Magikarp, Charmanders and Dratini. The xp/h isn't great... but what's the rush anyway?
