Bitcoins are a bit different to normal payment methods in that they are decentralized. So there's not really an "account" to open on any one particular site.

You'll need a bitcoin "wallet" and you will have an address that people can send bitcoins to. I personally use MultiBit. Downloading it and installing it will guide you through the process of setting up a bitcoin wallet.

Now to receive payments, you can take payments directly to your address, or you can use a Bitcoin payment gateway. For example: GoCoin, BitPay, CoinPayments or one of the hundreds out there. You'll just have to find the one that best suits your needs.

To get the bitcoins into real money is where you need to "sell" your bitcoins. You can do this from many websites such as Coinbase, Localbitcoins and many more you can find just searching for bitcoin exchanges.

Correct. The site you use doesn't matter, it's all the same service and infrastructure. The site or program is just a different interface to the platform.

To change bitcoin to real money, you essentially have to do an exchange of currency as if you were doing USD to YEN or whatever country you wish. So to do Bitcoin, you will need to head to a bitcoin exchange company. I haven't dealt with any for over 4 years, so I don't know of any reputable exchanges anymore. Either do your own research regarding this, or perhaps Smitten knows a good one for that in today's market.

I used to use a company, but they got bought out. It was a Canadian local company, and I never actually exchanged to money, I bought coins for money to use. ;s

If it asked you to set up a wallet then it's fine. I use it on my desktop and haven't used the phone version so can't say if it asked you on that or not
