Graphics and gameplay are great for the cost. Any veteran player of the Counter Strike series will want to get their hands on this game.
I love this game but not like i love my mothers cooking... wait a minute she doesnt cook to good but great review!
I am a hardcore CS player for almost 5 years now, and the one and ONLY year CSS was on the CPL play list the teams were complaining about the unfairness of the hitbox and glitch/buggy gameplay with lots of easy to reproduce exploits, as well as random freezups of about .5 second even on the best machines.
If you like CS, go CZ or 1.6, they are balanced, and it may require actual skill to own players, but trust me going to COD4 after CSS will get you noob-owned, while going to COD4 from CS 1.6 you might get a admin ban due to the level of accuracy and the tactics you will imply if you are a true seasoned player (Happened to me over 20 times now, was forced to meet up with a clan member in NYC and actually play in front of him, OMFG reaction followed)
As any CS since .8 beta the replay walue is huge just due to the adrenalin pumping, but the randomness of some shots in short sprays that may grant an easy headshot can cause a LOT of frustration to both beginners and well seasoned fraggers.
At the time the game came out I was DL'ing it over dial-up with 5 other friends helping, when we got the game the heat was on for about 3 weeks, but then we came back to 1.6 and faced the fact that we suck, big time, if you play for fun and don't mind random frustration play CSS, if you do want to show your skill I would suggest 1.6 or CZ.
An 8.5 for sound from me due to the fact that I use Bose QC3, and when tweak properly recon, defense and trough-wall kills become just a matter of proper relating sound-2-position (The sound of footsteps in all of the current active CS titles is quite nice, but still to get the best performance you might want to adjust some settings trough the console).
An overall 2.0 is my point of view as a pro gamer rather than a casual player, it might get a solid 7 for a casual player getting his/her steam off in the evening after a long day at the office because this game is like WoW, pure crack that you sniff trough a smoking blunt, it will lure you in to go in and kill more to show how good you are.
All in all, this game is a good shooter, the prodigious son of a great title that was overdone fun wise, sacrificing the serious and dry game play of 1.6 .
A defined try-out-@-an-internet cafe.
Buying it: only if in a bundle with all of the CS titles on Steam giving You the ability to choose for yourself.
PS: Have fun fragging, and don't cheat, no skill involved and you will shame yourself if faced with a head to head fight.

I have been around for a while...
I personally find absolutely nothing wrong with Source's graphics. It's not Crysis but their still some of the most realistic ones out there.
A lot of the CS:S haters are the CS 1.6 fanboys who can't adjust to the new hitboxes and such. Personally I find the game the same with some preety new graphics and things to shoot around. And a very effective flashbang.

thanks for the honest review
3/10 Review.
You did not PLAY the game, most of the game is about getting into it.
So what if the graphics are apalling? Diablo 2 has terribad Graphics and no-one seems to care.
You only reviewed it on it's base gameplay of Dust and office.
What about:
Surf
Gungame
Poolparty
Dodgeball
Football.
I see no mention that mods even exist for this game, sure you can play dust alld day long if you want, but whats the point.
The audio is all about the in-game Teamspeak/Vent, helping your friends out, calling for backup, and once in a while a huge argument.
Damn right it's based on skill, every game is, whats the point otherwise, 1 out of every 100 people play it for the lore and the fact you can kill Terrorists.
And the Exploiting section was just a plug for FPSowned.
It's not a 'Fanboys' only game, play it for more than an hour. Get some skills, and feel the rush of exhiliration as you annihilate your enemies.
I would rater play DoD, Its alot more realistic and the grapich is great too
But good job at the rew =)

Why fill up a signature?
I don't like at all how this review really is about your opinion. Of course, it ads.. "life" to the review, but I really want to hear a bit more professional one, without standing on one side, if you get my point.
Also, the exact gameplay is hard to pin down?
On de_ maps, terrorist tries to plant bombs, counter terrorists tries to stop them.
cs_ maps are hostage rescue maps, etc.
You should actually take in the modding possebilities, you only mention via maps,
as far as I know, the only special "mods" with maps are surf maps, others includes
a bit of scripting.
Back to gameplay again... In the begginning, you buy grenades, your weapons, and then
you try to shoot down the other team.
You didn't say anything negative about sound, why then only a 6?
I'm going to play WC3 now, so I'm going to end this now.
Keep the reviews comming!
Edit:
The reason I would want someone who has played this game a bit more
to review this, would be because that person would actually know more
about the game. There are zombie mods, RPG mods, perhaps not that
great, but worth mentioning. And what about the hitboxes? They are
completly horrible as they are now...

FOR A MOMENT, NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN, AFTER A SECOND OR SO, NOTHING CONTINUED TO HAPPEN.
CS:S is an awesome game. It sure isn't only for "fanboys only", since I wasn't really a fan of CS before playing the game.
I learned the game, read a few e-bookz, and are now pretty much skilled.

I agree with Giorgio, I had never played any of the Counterstrike games before, but when I downloaded Steam and played CS:S, I really had a lot of fun. Then my Steam crapped out >_>
I used to be a Super Mod. Now I'm just Super, thanks for asking.
This is a great game, but I agree with the author in every aspect, I'd stick with bioshock, tf2 or another fps if I were you.
