As some of you may have noticed, the max reputation you can give may be lower than the reputation power shown in your userCP.
I am making this suggestion based on the information given in the ownedcore handbook. It is either outdated or it's a site bug that reputation power doesn't add up like it shows in userCP. From my understanding there is a reputation power cap based on the user rank. I find this is a bad idea, and I will elaborate on it. Forgive me if any of this information is wrong, as it isn't written anywhere as far as I know.
please take this suggestion as constructive criticism, as I am only looking to further improve the community.
What I would like is to see OwnedCore consider one of the following, as well as updating the handbook:
- Removing Reputation Power cap for some higher user ranks. (IE: Elite+ or Legendary+ or Elder+)
- Removing Reputation Power cap for ALL users, and limit the amount of rep given in a 24 hour period. (Using the actual amount of reputation points you're giving, not the amount of users you've given it to.)
- Without touching reputation power caps; Change the limit of rep given in a 24 hour period so it uses the actual amount of points, and allow users that have a bigger reputation power than the cap to use more points in that 24 hour period based on how much over the cap they are.
- Nerf reputation power once more so the amount displayed in UserCP doesn't go over the cap of what you can give. (Please don't be another Blizzard)
Information missing in the handbook:
- What are the different reputation caps for each rank? As well as explaining the idea behind the caps.
- How is reputation given limited in a day? Per different users you give reputation to or per single reputation point you give overall in the day?
As someone with the legendary rank, I can say for a fact, rep power matters a lot more to me than rep itself. Reputation was meant to make this forum be somewhat self-managed by users. It works, up until you reach a rank where you have nothing to look forward to, because you're rep power capped anyway, and are limited in giving an incentive to the people who do contribute in the sections you care about.
I get the idea that if I was able to give +13 rep to someone, they'd only have to get repped 7 times to reach contributor. Where is the problem? There's not that many people who can give that much rep, I can't rep that person the next day, and those of us who do know for the most part how to use our reputation power to promote a healthy forum environment. I remember becoming a lot more active when I reached contributor and I think that goes for a lot of users.
Lets look at the pros of the suggestions from earlier:
1 - Removing Reputation Power cap for some higher user ranks. (IE: Elite+ or Legendary+ or Elder+)
- Gives an extra incentive for users who have already reached a rank higher than most to keep posting content. This has been an ongoing problem for as long as I can remember. Most of us with higher ranks post things that DO help the community grow in a healthy way.
2 - Removing Reputation Power cap for ALL users, and limit the amount of rep given in a 24 hour period using the actual amount of reputation points you're giving, not the amount of users you've given it to.)
- As of right now, there isn't a point in giving 1 rep if you can give 7. The users now become responsible to use their allowed daily amount of rep points a day wisely based on the quality of the content.
- It would encourage people who spend a lot of time on their releases to post here. The amount given for a copy paste thread will not be the same as the amount given for a free bot release by a developer. There's something fundamentally flawed about paying 5$ for a guide and making it all the way to legendary without working for it. Does that ring a bell?
3 - Without touching reputation power caps; Change the limit of rep given in a 24 hour period so it uses the actual amount of points, and allow users that have a bigger reputation power than the cap to use more points in that 24 hour period based on how much over the cap they are.
- Same as above, just a different way to go about it.
- This would also prevent people jumping ranks too fast, as the cap will still be there, however the user with a bigger amount of rep power isn't penalized anymore. I personally like this solution the best.
4 - Nerf reputation power once more so the amount displayed in UserCP doesn't go over the cap of what you can give. (Please don't be another Blizzard)
- Not a whole lot of pros here... Please don't do this. It would only be a setback for us higher-ups and the community. There is nothing wrong with adapting to the community growing up in size and having more reputation points being exchanged by users every day. People want to move forward with any progress, including OwnedCore.
