2 top comments

Hello OwnedCore - I was wondering if we could make 2 top comments, kinda like YouTube
so the visitor get to see the useful stuff first instead of all the junk and have to scroll through pages ^_^

But people will get bored of seeing the name Confucius all the time, no but really Freefall does have a good point, this will lower the chances other more useful replies are seen if they are posted a bit after the thread of been posted.

Not only that, but I bet there'd be a bunch of "THUMBS UP IF-" style comments, like on YouTube.

Most readers will in that scenario most likely read ONLY the top 2 comments, thus not inviting them to participate in the discussion.

Which essentially beats the purpose of a forum.

Instead of top two comments there is a plugin I have seen other forums use that allows users to rate posts then readers can filter posts out by rating

Now you described the next problem. Most people might only look at the high rated ones and not notice if there's other coments that's actually more helpful. That's what I ment with my first coment.

I do know that Freefall, but people are gonna rate the most helpful comments.

Make it not instantly visible as the first 2 post under the OP, rather have a sort of spoiler button to show the comments

I think its entirely possible... but I would need to hear more reasoning for why this is necessary to make me a believer.... I see all of the negative things stated above happening and not many of the positive ones...

Not only that but OC is not like youtube in 1 major way... you WONT see 300,000 comments on any average thread here.... its not that hard to read through 2 or 3 pages of comments (the average "help me" thread) to find a good answer.

I also see this being a huge populatity contest sort of like "give all the pink and purple names some votes.. maybe ill get rep! (and I dont want to have my ass kissed because of the color of my name thanks)

I dont mean to insult the idea in any way or form... I just dont think its necessary or even productive.
