After four years, my email seems to have been leaked from OC

Hello.

I have been on this site since September of 2008. When I registered, I used an email address only for this website. I do this as a practice because I want to know who is giving out my email address so I know who is a greedy, naughty sod. For the first time in four years, I have just received spam directed at the email address I used to register with ownedcore.com. I have been around enough to assume in this case that it was not intentional on the part of the management. I am writing to let the powers-that-be know that it is possible that some recent change has made it possible for member email addresses to be data-mined from the forum.

It's also worth mentioning that the spam I received was a poorly written Runescape "your account is hacked please give us your password" kind of scam email. It actually cited a US statute, and then referred to its legal rights in the UK.

no... if your email was data mined i do not beleive it was from here, unless you show real proof it can happen.

maybe it was kinda bruteforced? i dont know what's your adress, but if it's something [email protected] it is possible someone just had luck. Is there only one spam? or is it like now there are coming more and more? or do you have similar adresses, maybe same name on different email services? or is it some cryptic adress that is unlikely to get a random mail.

I own namreeb.org. Email sent to <anything>@namreeb.org goes to one inbox. If it was brute forced I would have a spam box full of spam (I actually get surprisingly little). I do this specifically because I can easily use a different email address for everything I sign up for, for cases like this.

The email I received the scam letter to was used ONLY for my registration here.

uhm we made a news post a LONG LONG LONG time ago, that someone got hold of our db.. (Many years ago "Ding dong the wicked witch" ring a bell? ...
So it is probably from that..
