Antivirus Problem (AVG 'still' on computer?)

Hey all. Ok, so I've run into a problem while trying to switch Antiviruses.

A couple days ago. I tried to download and install Kaspersky. Well, the download part went fine and dandy but the install came to a halt.

    The problem:

It says that AVG is still on my computer. However, it's not. Or I don't think it is and I have no clue as to how to get rid of what's left of AVG.

I went into Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > AVG 8.0 and got rid of it. I guess this wasn't enough.

Has anyone run into this problem and were able to solve it? I'd really like to give Kaspersky a try and AVG was just causing me too many problems.

    Thanks, Tinny.

Try running CCleaner. Do a registry clean up to get rid of any files left behind by AVG and also search for any AVG files left on your computer and delete those too as they can leave behind files that can conflict with others, such as user settings.

I was in same boat as you mate. Just do that

Start>Run>Regedit > Press search button on regedit, Type AVG, delete everything that you see.

Do what the others say unless you didn't restart your pc before trying to install a new anti virus The wonders of restarting your computer. Uninstall, RESTART, then install new Had to help many people in the past trying to reinstall programs and such when there only problem was that they had not restarted.

Ok, so all of this and it's still a no go.

I went through CCleaner, went into Options and Included an AVG folder, which I can't see in my reg /My Programs folder. The first time it cleaned a couple AVG files.

I also ran a couple Registry scans, as well as the Cleaner a couple times.

I also went through Run > Regedit > AVG -- which, found only stuff in AVGeneral(I deleted some files, hopefully I don't need those, lmao) but nothing to do with AVG 8.

But, however, of course with my luck.. it's still saying that AVG is on my computer.

Ok, so I even went a step further and downloaded a full version of Registry Mechanic. It found 400 something files to fix and some how none were the AVG files. God, I'm stumped.

Have you restarted your pc since running CCleaner?

If that doesnt work, go striaght to the cause: AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Tools download
Download AVG Remover and Run it.
