Proxy for security

I hear many people are using proxies, I've tried it, but I always end up not using them anyways. They are so SLOW... With 0.5kb/s it takes an assload of time to load anything.. Does anyone know a fast proxy server?

For webpages use stuff like Hide My Ass! Free Proxy - Free Web Proxy - Free Anonymous Browsing or www.stealth-ip.com for download-software... well theres a "TOR" plugin for Azureus (torrents) as far as I know... And theres also a software for Firefox / Internetexplorer called "Hide IP Platinum"
