PREPARE TO HAVE YOUR MIND BLOWN!

After Gastricpenguin decided to do a System Restore, and restore his computer to a previous date in time, the Shout Bawx broke out into a heated discussion about the Butterfly Effect.

What is the Butterfly Effect?
Wikipedia defines The Butterfly Effect as: "a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. Small variations of the initial condition of a nonlinear dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system. So this is sometimes presented as esoteric behavior, but can be exhibited by very simple systems: for example, a ball placed at the crest of a hill might roll into any of several valleys depending on slight differences in initial position."

What is a good example?
In the movie "Butterfly Effect", a butterfly is eaten in the stone age, which caused a ripple in the play out of history, which ended up causing a famous writer to never be born.

Summary:
A small variation in the past can cause a significant and even mind blowing change in the play out of history. And sometimes end up in an infinite loop due to the change of events.

So I decided to post a few things that could happen, and a few things we talked about in Shout Bawx.

Conclusion: If Gastric did indeed go back in time and kill me, I would have never told my brother about creating Private WoW servers, which would have lead to him NEVER coming here. If he never came here, then he wouldn't have told Gastric to kill me. If Gastric hadn't killed me, then I would have shown my brother this website, and history might have played out exactly the same, which would cause an infinite cycle of; Gastric killing me, me not dying, Ace telling Gastric to kill me, Gastric killing me, me not dying... ect.

Cure for cancer: A person goes back in time to when they first showed signs of cancer.
Conclusion: A person goes back in time the time when they first showed symptoms of cancer. If the cancer is cured in the past, then they would have not had a reason to go back in time, therefor, they would have never had their cancer cured, and they would have cancer again. BUT: There is a fork in the future.
The person could go back in time and try and get the cancer cured, and continue the time loop. Obviously you would say "No, the same thing will happen as did last time.", but you would have no way of knowing that happened because the series of events would never have happened.
You could live with the cancer: This choice might end up resulting in death, but this is the only way out of this infinite loop.
So now we ask ourselves;
- Is there another option? If so, what is it?
- In the time that we would have time travel, would we not also have a cure for cancer?
- What would happen if instead of going back in time, you went forward in time?
- Is it possible to go forward in time?
- If you went forward in time, could you ever go back without changing the future?
- Is time travel possible at all?

Stuff like this sucks, questions like, if the universe is always expanding, what is it expanding into?
And time is aload of bull imo, it was created by humans, what would it be like without. If we didn't have time we would proberly have a totally different way of thinking that would make questions such as the above oh so very clear.

first you need a black hole not just any black hole a spinning one then you need a stuff called cosmic string this stuff is the hardest (and therectical but totaly possible) stuff in the universe its formed over millions of years by gases ect so something like the big bang would of made 0.0001 mm of the stuff


now manage to get through the tiny dead center of the black hole if you miss ur crused

now your at the enstine and rosvelt bridge (named after the people who thought it up) this is a wormhole

congratulation your in another dimention what didnt i tell you you CANT travle in time all you can do is go to a alternat reality were time is differnt (all universes are stradeld so at differnt points at history)

have fun kids just rember not to cause a paradox because any alternat dimention can become a dominant one by any simple thing

I swear black holes were just neutrons stars.. The gravity of a neutron star is so powerfull that it sucks in all the light around it turning it into a black hole..

no wait isnt it when a star goes super nova (goes bang) its like in the sifi movies where you see a cool explotion but after a couple of seconds it begins to suck back on its self

if you image a sheet of cotten and then 1 big marble and aloada small marbles put the big marble in the center and dot the small marbles around if you hold the big marble from under the sheet (so its leavle) thats like a big star if you let it got the sheet sags and all the stars are pulled in tada black hole


if you watch someone going into a black hole they seem to stop this is beacuse not even light and time can escape a black hole to the people flying into the black hole time flows normaly to otheres its almost no existant.

I absolutely love conversations like this. Warning, only read this if you have a few minutes. It's going to be long =D

I am one to truly believe that nothing is impossible. It may currently be improbable, but by no means impossible. At one point in time, it was impossible to:
1) Sail around the world. You would simply fall off and die.
2) Fly. Heavier than air object can not fly through air, it's impossible.
3) Communicate with someone on the other side of the world in real-time.

The list could go on forever, my point is, that until a method is discovered, things may >seem< impossible, but they are in all actuality just improbable.

/rant off. Ok. Now that i've said that... About Mr. R's comment, "because I never heared of a guy which came from the future" -- in my mind, there could be a couple of reasons for this. The first, is there could be another singularity in the future. Another point at which, for all intensive purposes, time (as humans interpret it) begins again. The universe hits the outward barrier, where the propelling force of the big bang is negated by gravity, and it collapses in on itself again, and "history" repeats itself, with another bang (yes, I know, it's far-fetched, but what about this conversation isn't? =D.)

The second was touched on earlier in this thread. A paradox. Obex said the word, but didn't elaborate on it much. In the realm of time travel, it's actually referred to as a "Temporal Paradox" -- which is the theology created by Stans' example. X goes back in time and somehow effects X's life, creating a "casualty loop" and thus negating the time travel altogether. It's possible that, in the future, they are well aware of the actual consequences of time travel, and because of that fact, can and will only observe, making no changes whatsoever, or even interacting with people in the "past."

It's also theorized that there are multiple universes, in which, there are an infinite number of universes all existing in the same, yet different "time." That, every action, every reaction, every possible outcome of every situation is being played out in a different way in one of these universes. That, in one, you've already died, in ours, you're alive, in another, you never existed because your great great grandfather died. It's been further theorized that if you were able to return to the past, and change it, you'd simply enter the alternate universe, and the one you left would simply continue on.

This topic can really make your head spin. There are so many possibilities, so many potential outcomes, so many dangers. Because of the butterfly effect, changing the past in any way would be too risky. You go back, step on a bug, which was supposed to evolve, and eventually lead to that cure for cancer, but is now gone.

Yeah anyways, i'm sure anyone who is actually reading this is tired of my rant by now, so going to cut it off. =)
