Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

Well its a ok ider on paper (well pixals) but lets look at it

Step 1: You hire a massive team of developers from a hacks web site

step 2 : your team spend 1-2 years making a game with no pay allso its going to be a year befor you can formaly anounce it (pics game footage ect)

Step 3: Pray you got a good ider and get a fan base otherwise its a year gone and peeps to pay. Also buy now your paying over $100 a month on just keeping your web page up its gota have snazy pics and animations look at wows web page So you need to hire bout 3-4 people for that and some to run the web site all on no pay

Step 4: You spend another 1-2 years finshing it paying a minim of $100 a month for your web page.

Step 5: You lauch beta and discove a whole host of bugs so everyones on over time (trust me there will be bugs if you managed to comb them all out befor beta it must be a tiny game) So now 3/4 of your team will be working flat out fixing bugs so the rest of the game will take longer

Step 6: you launch your game with the small subscript fee you noted bearing in mind your have 3 years of wages to pay and 3 years of web site fees allready lost (somthing in the region of $5000 of any half decent web page) then you have say a $10 doller sub scription wich means after bout 3 years your starting to make a profite off this if it fales at any point past step 2 your in thousands of pound of debt

So o know what your thinking can i make all 6 steps perfictly IMHO no not a chance all comapnys have money to back em u if something gose wronge they loss lots of money but unless ur sitting on a loda cash or are expecting to come into a inheritance of $10000 u will be royaly screwed if it goes wrong

so the question is do you feel lucky ... well do'ya punk? <--- couldnt resit

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

    Well, the thing is..

If you don't want people to steal the game, you need probably to pay for the copyright and registered trademark as well.

Then you gotta find a website designer and creator.
Then you gotta find a website hoster or server you can host it on.
Then you gotta buy a domain. (and you need an admin of the site)

For the gameserver you need to get a super connection for your game as well.
(and you have to plan how you will distribute the game as well,
cause if people can only download it, then you have to think about that as well cause you will need to have a huge bandwidth as well)

And you also have to get not just 1 server, but more like maybe 3-4
If you're going to host a big game. (ofc now we're talking big)
But you do need 2 servers atleast if 1 of them should crash totally,
you would loose money for every sec there went when the serv was down if it wasn't in the maintenance time)

To add on that you need a 24/7 hour GameMaster team which would probably be like blizzards 8 hour team shifts. (they gotta be payed as well)

And well, there's also electricity bill, company office rent to pay as well if you don't decide to host it at your own house or a power plant lol.

I could speak for ages about what you need..
Another thing is, it sounds cool you got a lot of experience from a lot of MMO's, though, that doesnt really help that much, if you don't have a good team of loyal partners etc to make it happen.

You might have to join up with another company to make it happen or win the lottery or just be rich. ( i vote on the last lol )

It will be quite hard to find that much coders, scripters, designers and all that to work for free for a long time with no payment.

Of course, such ones working at those times will probably do it in their free time, and that means the project will take a lot longer to make as well.

That's all i gotta say for now ^^

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

Eh, im a website programmer myself actualy so that removes some of the costs for website designers, and most my friends know how to program websites to and can get free GOOD domains. so im all set there actualy, and i factored in serv costs and with 32 poeple a 5000$ serv only removes 153$ or somewehre around that from our sallery (forgot the num but it was in the 150's cuz i did the calculation a few days ago)

Eh and i work fast on stuff, and anyways , im looking into learning to make/edit models with the actual tools used by developers so i could also add myself to that team. And im a fast worker none the less ( can get a basic website up in 3 hrs with nearly 5 pages but not that fancy looking)

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

Eh after we get the launch of im gonna hire outside programmers to come fix it up so the normal dev team doesnt need to be working thier butts of

(theres a website i know that u can rent part time programmers thatll fix bugs and make code for u but they cost 1000$ per time, so like it wouldnt work for an entire game dev team but im gonna have them check through the code from my own exspenses so they can fix bugs while we use mainly the dev team as a GM team if they want and then only hire outside GM's when we need the dev team working on stuff.

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

Well, to inform you.. I make basic installations + setting the basics up and designs up in less than 3 hours as well :P (cause omg that's really not that hard )
But that's only if i know how the site and design already should be.

And eh, may i ask, what is "GOOD" domains? And how can you get domains for free if they are NOT subdomains?

As far as i know, allmost everything costs money, domains does as well, though .info domains are only 3$ atm hehe, so that's quite low, most other domains is around on 6$ as well right now.. ^^ (which is cheap for domains)

But, keep in mind that a lot of people says they can easily code and make websites themselves, but are you able to make a site like Teh Unkwon in less than 24 hours?

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

ya, i think you're getting ahead of yourself here, but if you really wanna do this i suggest http://www.realmcrafter.com/ its a $100 mmorpg maker that comes with stuff already and its own scripting language, and i would say the graphics are decent(http://www.realmcrafter.com/Gallery.php), you can import your own model of coarse. its just an idea, but like everyone else said its not gonna be some mega ground breaking wow-like game in 2 months with only 32 people working on coding it freom scratch.

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

You must either be: Super rich and dont care if you lose any of it or Your getting ahead of yourself. Yeah, this is a good idea and all, but the big question is "WHAT IF" theres alot of "What If" questions that need to be taken into consideration when making a Game. If you finish it and everythings going well, you payed for the website, you payed all the workers and stuff. Then suddenly maybe no-one likes/plays the game. Then your pretty much ****ed. Oh well, its your life, your the one that decides what paths you take. Hope this goes well for you mate.

Re: Looking for MMORPG dev team.

Turn it into a Dungeon Runners scenario. You start off at level 1. At around level 3 you might have say a piece of armour with 10 defence. Then something drops with 210 defence for level 3, but you have to be a member. Well it made me pay for it anyway heh.
