I have been into electronic dance music for almost 2 decades, and have been DJing for about 14 years.
I do not like dubstep. I didn't like nu-skool breaks either, or the more heavy drum & bass tunes...and I swear there's a connection (that wubwubwub bass might be a factor).
I did, however, enjoy some of the lighter, more "atmospheric / intelligent" drum & bass from the mid-90's.... so I'm thinking there must be some atmospheric/intelligent/non-abrasive dubstep out there that I just haven't been exposed enough to.
I'm not saying that there isn't good dubstep out there... just that I haven't heard anything that I like personally. I'm more into stuff that is groove based, and by groove I mean like that 70s funk & disco groove that jam bands get locked into for hours...and I just don't find that in dubstep, personally. To me, the majority of it seems extremely abrasive.
My $0.02...
I love Dubstep!
