    SLI 260s and VelociRaptor, fail.

Could have at least went with a GTX 295 instead, but even at that the ATI 5870 is still a better choice imo.

nvidia is supposed to be releasing their new cards soon, so why go with some overpriced "newer" ati card (or an "older" nvidia card) that is going to be replaced in a matter of months?

i went with the dual 260's so he still has money left over when the new cards hit the block, but yet enough power now to play anything and everything on maximum settings until then.

im not sure how you can fail with a VelociRaptor or two.

    iraq, you fail.

    youre saying ati is overpriced?

ati is setting the price on nvidia cards, because they always go cheaper.

    edit:

and dont buy velociraptors when you can get SSD's for around the same price.

    This makes more sense.

In reply to your ATI comment, ATI is cheaper and they won't be replaced in a "Matter of months"; Try more like 4+ quarters until you get another reasonable line of cards.

If you wanted to give him "Enough" power to make it until Quater 1 or 2 of next year; 1 GTX 260 would more than do it, OR if you just spent out the money for the now-coming DX11 cards in Q4 of this year (The new ATI cards or wait for NVidia's response), they'll definitely last you a year (or two if you don't mind).

But if you're determined to get dual GPUs; Don't SLI a 260, just spend the money on a 295.

SLI this late in the year, with lower-end cards no less, is a waste of money. With the VelociRaptor in mind; If he was pressured for performance with his HDD, He could easily go with a better SSD around the same price.
