Im moving to Germany, need some answers.

Hey there,

Im moving to Germany soon.

I am probably going to buy a MegaUpload and/or RapidShare account because my dad has been told P2P is being looked very closed, so he doesn't want any trouble.

Now my question is, im going to live in Rammstein, and we will have 16mb ADSL2+ ( Equivalent to 16,000kbps in spain ) which should get me 1,6mb/s download speed or up to 2mb/s.

The thing is I don't know what Internet Service Provider companyh to choose.

Is there anyway to check their sites/names and see which offers more speed?

Our future neighbours told us they got 16mb ADSL2+ so I guess we're gonna have same or very similar.

Any suggestions ?

Basically I don't want to use P2P/Torrent programs. I rather use megaupload and rapidshare ( Im not an expert so won't risk being caught by german government or anything ).

Basically, is using MegaUpload and RapidShare LEGAL in germany? Im about to buy an account.

For example, if your place offers cable, you should get cable internet because it's way faster than DSL.

For rapidshare:
At the moment, Rapidshare is in a very tricky situation (You even hear about it in radio) and here in germany, our government is planing to introduce a censorship and protocolling like in china.

But this is just in planing phase, and many people hope this wont get real.
It's the most discussed topic here.

Well, as Raham said, here in Germany pirating is almost worse than mass murder...-.-' You can get sued very easily if you're not very careful, but afaik MegaUpload should be atleast a bit safer than RS (some rumors going around about RapidShare :>)

Well, all I know is im going to live in Rammstein near an American huge military base where my dad will work at.

My spanish neighbours told me they have a 16MB line + TV that goes thru the phone cable ( I guess this slows down speed a bit... :/ ).

I just hope using MegaUpload is fine, here in spain I have 6MB ADSL and there will have 16MB ADSL2+ so im happy enough. Although I've been told P2P is very bad in Germany.

Ok then I think that's the ISP we will use since our neighbour will subscribe us so we have internet right after we arrive :P. yeah 12mb real with a 16mb line is "OK" ^^. Here in spain I have 6mb line and I get 5,8mb ^^

I already bought a year of MegaUpload account.

Btw does the ISP have something called FastPath or smthing that lowers your ping for gaming? We have this in Spain. Altho I see you have 1mb upload, that's nice I have 320kbps here rofl

Im in germany, and at my neighbour's house. He currently has Deutsche Telekom AG ( I think it's T-home??? ) with 16mb too, same as you. But I think he has some german TV also that goes thru the phone cable, I did speedtest and also got 12k kBit/s :P!

Anyways, what are the prices for this? We don't know yet, our neighbour is at work I didnt ask him what price he was paying for 16mb.
