Apple vs Psystar

Okay, maybe most of you dont know about this, but Psystar is a company that manufactured and sold powerful and expandable "MACs" for cheap. They were however pretty abrasive against the OSx86 community and selling their work, thus breaking a few licenses.

However Apple is sueing them for selling a COMPUTER where MacOSx is installed on. The Computer is manufactured with hardware so it can run MacOSx without any problems, so yeah you could call it a Mac - yet it is not and they never claimed it to be.

However it seems that Psystar filed for bankruptcy yesterday because of the lawsuit from apple - creditors are anonymous so its not verified by psystar yet 100%.

Anyways what do you think of this? Is it right that Apple is sueing Psystar for selling a computer that has and can use and run MacOSx?

(Mac OS X Leopard $129 in Apple store. so it can be bought seperate)

My opinion? I think it's bullshit.

They don't have the right to sell OSX on machines without permission from apple.

Its like if "macs" were the "standard" of computing (instead of pcs) and then someone sells homebuilt "Pc"s with windows on it without microsofts permission.

No I'm not an apple fanboi, I don't even own a mac or ipod xD

(also all the vid cards in pystards machines suck anyway, you can build a better hackintosh for less)

Technically Apple does have the right to sell their software to who they want, Psystar not being one of them.

The idea of Psystar is awesome, you can get a mac for dirt cheap. I was on the original wait list but never got the chance to buy one. Oh well.

So psystar has a ****load of macosx licenses why cant they sell it on if they dont use it?

Yup, because then its hackintosh and then apple has noone to sue because what I do with my computer is not apple's business. (Its the same as buying a dell, buying osx from apple, and hackintoshing the dell.)

Dell and HP (ect) give microsoft money for every single unit they produce, which is nothing, but computers are sold very very often these days.

Just as a guideline, Microsoft office is sold to Major stores at 75P.

Microsoft doesnt make computers though. I think anyone who plays on apples side of this in this thread will be called a fanboy which would lead to most of them keeping there mouth shut. I own both a PC and a Mac, i run windows XP on a dell dimension 9150 with some upgrades of course and i have a fully decked out macbook pro. Personally i like using the mac better because i have all my e-mails linked into there mailing app which was easy to do and between msn and ichat i have all my chats. I think PC is better for people who are not real into computers because it is alot easier to use and cost less.

Over all about this discussion i would have to side with Apple to be sueing psystar, however, IF psystar offers OSX on a machine and charges full price and pays apple full price ( aka they basically just set it up for people that are not computer literate ) there should be no problems because that would be the same as me buying a computer that can run osx and having a computer "repair mech" put it on for me. So Psystar should be able to sell it as an added item but make no money off of it and there should be no problems.

In the end it is about limiting competition, creating more profits, and owning what is rightfully property.

I believe this whole issue boils down to whether or not Pystar paid the legal, legit amount for the OSX. If not, then it's stealing. If so, Apple is retarded.
