    [Show-Off] Website design

This is how I am paying for my driving lessons/car, seeing as I don't have a decent enough paying job and not enough time while I'm in college, I took inspiration of a guy in college who is coding sites for decent sums and thought I can design those.

This was the first design I came up with, this I have never sold and was just practice for myself. I came back to this about 9 months onwards and touched it up... it's still not finished, and may be the template for my next money making scheme in the future.

But I'd like to know what you guys think, bare in mind when i started making this I had no idea about the restrictions of web colours, and whilst I have recoloured most of it to be as accurate a representation of what it is on my screen, some of the orange and blue hues are a little off. This will appear darker and deeper for you Windows users as I am on a mac, and the colours are alot more vibrant, so if you are on Windows could you give me a heads up on how the colouration is for you.

Ummm so less of the story more of the picture...

Please give me brutally honest criticism, but ignore any names or text in there... it's just a placeholder to show you what it would look like.

It looks pretty decent and simple. I would soften the edges of the light blue buttons a bit though. The bar where it says ''Welcome, George" looks kinda messed up in the other end of the text. And the top of it looks like it was moved a few pixels up too high. At the little button bar on the right, the yellow destroys it a bit. I like the idea with it becomming yellow over there. But maybe you should add a yellow gradient which went from the right side of the bar, and over the small button bar. Then make it end up as it is new, that looks fine.

Thanks for the reply, I am not totally sure what you mean by it looks like it is a few too many pixels high, as it is directly in line with the bar behind it.

I realised it might not be to obvious what the left buttons are for so I made a quick lil animation to show them... its a large file so you have to go to this link to see it: animation.gif (It replays itself every 7 seconds).

The colours are washed out and the image is choppy because it's just a lil GIF thing.

I wasn't too clear what you meant with the orange, also the orange is not a gradient so it's not as simple as that... but I made some alterations... and you can tell me if any are going along the right line...

    Full yellow button:

    Glossy yellow button:

    Highlighted yellow bar:

    Glossy hint of yellow:

    Cyan highlight:

I don't like the yellow tone,it doesnt feel as fresh as your big orange bar but depending on the people your developing for it might be better as the cyan highlight since it stands out more and if the + - is for the font size a good visible highlight might be needed for those who would need such a function.

Click the link to the animation I made to see what + and - do, it's a collapsable window. Oh and yes I agree I like the cyan also... thanks to sheep for giving me reason to change it.
