[Help/Rate] My first attempt at something like a sig.

    Okay,

First of all HI! I just got PS CS4 and decided to follow a tutorial for a sig. I followed sheepking's (kind-of) and this was the end result:

Now i know it probably sucks but i was wondering if you guys who know what they are doing could provide some constructive criticism. I would like to get good at this.

    EDIT:

    2nd try:

    EDIT2:

    3rd Try!

I suggest you do some more tutorials, that's how I started out and I've became quite good.

I can see you also have the will to improve your skills, which is essential.

Not bad for a first timer

Filter>Sharpen is a great tool when used in moderation, it gives your picture that HD look.

    Before:

    After:

Find a cool font at Dafont.com and throw it in your image.
I usually use Outer Glow and Drop Shadow, because it adds depth.

    Before:

    After:

Also, a nice finishing touch. Create a new layer, and hit Ctrl-A (Select All). Edit>Stroke: Pick the stroke color (black usually looks best), pixel size (1-3px looks nicest), and select inside. This just gives the signature a cleaner look.

    Before:

    After:

Yours looks really nice, I like it a lot. These are just some things that I always do with signatures to clean them up. Keep up the good work

Tip: Dont add text until you start getting the signature base down.

But you did a great job for your first sig. Just keep following tutorials and you'll get good quickly.

You should try lowering the opacity of the applied image sharpened layer. Maybe even erase the render a bit. As you can see, it is overly sharpened because it has sharp hair lines. When you sharpened the layer, it just made them over sharpened.

*facepalm* You're not meant to sharpen. Not that much. Also, don't use Base as a text, nor cowboys.

Add the C4Ds and the Wireframes ABOVE the render and set them either to "Screen" or "Linear Dodge (Add)"

Then erase parts you dont like

You do realize on the text thing that I threw that in as an example...
Also, Sharpen looks nice, it is all opinion

Sharpen does look nice, not just too sharpened. Also, I find unsharp mask looking better than regular sharpen.
