Has anyone heard back from Yamashi? I pm'd him about access to the svn so I can start learning my way around the Rift stuff. I'm not big on the botting/cheating stuff, but I am perpetually curious and am trying to learn more about reversing networking streams and such.

I don't want to share with siennacore as they are a part of Ivalice, the biggest server in france and they are probably going to keep the emu for themselves, also the admin is a big a**hole so yeah, that's why I am not going to release anything.

Sienna Core is open source. You do know what open source is, right?

All else fails find another group of people you trust then to work and complete more of the private server project. Keep the focus on making a working private server.

Turning open source into closed source is pretty easy, just lock the access once pretty much everything works !
That's what they did with their branch of mangos !

Then don't give them the source. Just keep working on the project or give the source to other people you trust. Just keep working on a RIFT private server come to life.

Anyways, as it's open source, every steps made contributes to everyone, not only siennacore. You can't start an emulation project alone anyways, it's tooo much work and give-up chances are so high, thats probably why they started this open source project but if they go closed source one day, everyone is up to continue and I'm sure a lot of people will take up this project if this goes closed source.

Making a private server is not hard and doesn't take much time...
The long part is making the database and scripting !

well at the very least release some sort of sniffer that can log packet decrypted. To work on scripting and work on database, proper tools need to be made. I've already done work on a log analyzer that would eventually be able to help build a DB, but no work on anything can really be done w/o the packets to analyzable

Look at it like this. Just make a packet sniffer or something so others can have a shot at getting an emulator up. If it's open source, then not only Sienna Core will be able to decrypt things. But also other people as well. So even if Sienna Core decides to go closed source, at least there will be other teams out there who can setup their own open source emulator for everyone.

Complaining about them possibly going closed source in the future while you yourself wont allow your files to be open source is a double standard at best.

I will release a hacked version of rift.exe that dumps packets in a few days/weeks because I am currently on vacation and I don't feel like programming that kind of things right now.
I will keep you guys updated !

Anyone made any progress on the encryption? I'm also still baffled why they seem to want to send a deflated stream but don't use compression.
