Question on Shooting at diffiernt troop type characters

So if I have a Monstrous Infantry character in a unit of regular infantry, can you specify that you are shooting at the character (plz provide BRB justification if you can)?

If so does it work the other way around (regular infantry can be shot at in a unit of Monstrous Infantry)?

I think you can't use the Look Out Sir rule in both of the above cases (though it makes little sense that a Monstrous infantry can't protect regular infantry if they could have protected another Monstrous Infantry)
