Simple Map Hack creation

Hello all. I'm looking to create a very simple map hack from scratch but I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to begin. I'm a professional software developer so I know my way around code. I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction. I don't need a tutorial or anything. Probably just a quick, "check out this program" will suffice. I tried messing around with Winhack 2.0, but I can't get it installed on a 64-bit machine and it's really old anyway.

Anyhow, basically all I'm trying to do is create an image of the map that I can view in windows. I don't need it to be integrated into the client. I assume that's probably the safest way to do this.
