They get their rift re-opened by one of them members you invited depending on the terms of the invite. I usually have lowest paragon level reopen, some do highest, last one in, first one, etc.

They have one for caches kinda. dont remember what its called. Join the "Rift it forward" community and its in the notes there.

I've really enjoyed doing the rift it forward. running the rifts and reopening for people. its a nice change from the normal grind
