Doing public runs, netting about 16,579,560 xp a run (turn in plus mobs). The gold adds up pretty quickly as well.

This is still pretty good, but the Caldeum refugees is still better for leveling at the moment, if you have good movement speed, you can rescue 20-23 refugees in 1 minute for about 10 million xp, you don't get the gold but, 80k a run is still pretty paltry.

Takes about an hour and a half of doing that to go from 1-60 too.

I disagree. I tried Caldeum, I didn't get the 10mil+ people are getting in 1 minute with a DH. Took closer to 3 minutes.

getting around 580m per hour doing this, you have to perfect your run.
use DH, concentrate paragon points to movement speed and resource cost reduction.
buy a stone of jordan with +disc
buy a 1 handed box with +disc
set invigoration and tumble as skills
put 'hot pursuit' as a passive
once you have the most efficient route you should be doing it in less than a minute, also to save time once you have rescued the followers just walk into an enemy and die, then quickly press esc and leave, if you've done this right then you will bypass the 10 second wait.

Updated method of doing this, would be to do Act 1, Quest 2 Explore Cellar, basically the same thing as Mira runs, basically WP to old Ruins, and kill the mobs, go down to Adria's Cellar and kill the rare in there, about the same amount of exp, with good rate of legendaries dropping as well.
