-Rogues Do It From Behind-
Let me clear this up if I may:
It is possible and has been done.
There are only a very small amount of people doing this as it requires quite a few things (Knowledge of injecting processes and using the function getItemAttribute which is not one the one made public because warden already has wmods looking for that specific function, so unless you're Sheppard (creator of d3a) I think the number of people who have a working anti-detect can be counted on one hand)
The way blizzard programmed items is retarded, they were suppose to spawn id'd to begin with which allowed for this little loophole, something to notice for those who haven't is shield block % on unid'd rare shields. You know for certain if a shield has + % chance to block on it if its a rare shield over 20% block as opposed to having a standard block % which then gets added to the number after being identified. However some moron wanted a bit of nostalgia and made rares drop unid'd so you could "open presents," yay Blizzard!
Point is, those people selling unid'd items on jsp and other trading forums are not the ones doing this, as those people who are doing this have much more efficient ways of making gold, and also let's face the truth, 90% of people are leechers and have almost no programming or scripting experience and do not wish to take the time and effort to make their own program. Most people just want a "I win" button and then to go on the forums and complain why there isn't more content or why is everything too easy. This is why those who do make the hacks/scripts/auto-it bots are so well known... because there are so few of them.
Anyway, hope this helps calm people down a bit. No one is scamming people, however if you buy from the same person 2 or 3 times in a row and get absolute crap all 3 times, then I'd raise a flag. However I really do believe that this particular function is just being used on bots to sell or keep rares and save the 1 second id time to make the bot more efficient.
90% of all rares are junk, but people like to gamble. If you price your rares right you'll easily make more money on un-id's even without scamming people.
i think this thread should be moved because it doesnt show an exploit, but it shows people commenting and theorizing about something that many of us have seen it happening on streams, personally ive seen this happen a couple of times when people id an item and the a lag or game crash caused by the server rollback a few so the item is back to unid state
Some weird just happened to me. My game simply crashed. Although i was able to move and write to friends i couldn't attack any monsters/ open doors. After i while i had to close the game with the task manager and when i relogged into my account i got rolled back like 5-10minutes. I identified the same items, that i identified 5minutes ago and the results were the same.
Maybe you can find a way to manually let the game crash and roll back.
sponge if you were able to roll back, this would also work for duping
The "unable to attack/interact with world objects" also happens when being invited to someone elses game and the 10sec countdown to leaving your own expires, haven't experienced any rollbacks with it yet (haven't tried, only noticed the maps were practically empty when running around after accepting an invite). The length of this period however varies from less then a second to (from what i experieced) 20sec.
Just a side note on anyone else wondering about whether loot is determined on ID or on drop, Bashiok says loot is determined upon drop

Would packet sniffing get these results.. or would that get Warden all worked up?
Loot is determined on drop. Just like in Diablo II.
And the answer to the question of the thread is "no, you can't determine the stats of an item without identifying it beforehand."
Although stats are determined beforehand, they are stored serverside and are only giving out on succesful identification. No one, no rolle3k, or whoever else, is able to know the stats of an item beforehand (lord2800, Dark Mage and several others confirmed this). Its a myth.
