    *^* ^**^ *^* Marketplace Tips - Avoid Getting SCAMMED! *^* ^**^ *^*

Sup guys? Too much scamming has been going on these days, so I thought I'd add some techniques I've been using to avoid it.

I've traded ~$5,000 worth of D3 gold the past couple weeks without a SINGLE chargeback! Oh yeah

    1. The Golden Rule: Avoid Chargebacks! When accepting a PayPal payment, request a D3 "Real I.D." friend add (using their email address) and make sure the names on Diablo 3 and Paypal match!
One of the most common methods of scamming is using stolen paypal accounts which will cause all money that you have received to be reversed. Even if you withdraw the money immediately, your account will go negative and you will have to pay it back.

    2. If trading on Skype, request a PM on ownedcore to confirm their identity!
Many scams involve impersonating trusted members on skype by creating similarly-named accounts.

    3. Always request to trade in increments if you are trading first, even if you don't plan on doing so!
Simply knowing that they are WILLING to do increments is a pretty good indication that you are not dealing with a scammer.

    4. Buying gold? Selling an account for gold? Expected to pay first? Ask for them to put the entire sum of gold in the trade window to confirm that they even have the amount you are supposed to be receiving.

Most people already know about tips 2-4, but #1 is very often overlooked and can DRASTICALLY reduce chargebacks. Of course, people can chargeback their own accounts; but it is MUCH less likely. (Think about it: in order for a scammer to use his own account, he would only be able to get 1-2 uses out of it before PayPal would freeze his account. Most scammers are repeat offenders.)

PLEASE BUMP THIS (and +rep? =D) if you found it useful so others can see it!

    Happy trading Be safe!

Rule Number 1 Definitely should not be overlooked. It will make me very uneasy when I see those differences and I will not trade with anyone who has discrepancies such as that.

Judging people from their reputation is also a good first start.

True, but beware if the person keeps pushing his rep in your face. He may just be pressurizing you.

Got scammed by a 44rep account here before.

Anyone use PlayerAuctions? They take a 10% cut from the seller if you make your transaction through them, but they also insure you against scams. Only foolproof method I've found to protect sellers against fraud. Rep is useless against large scale scammers, since they could have dozens of transactions under their belt, and thus high rep, before hitting every single one of their sellers with a chargeback.

I've had success with moneybookers but they make you jump through hoops to withdraw the money for the first time

Moneybookers take forever to verify. The best method is to call them and verify with a representative manually.
