Hey guys, there is finally a way how you can model edit characters again, first of all, here's the proof!


How does it work?
it's pretty simple.

step 1:
we are going to use 3.3.5 edits, they still work ( for example these edits http://www.mmowned.com/forums/world-...race-swap.html )
Use A ME program like MyWarCraftStudios (or MPQ Editor) to EXTRACT ANY RELEVANT CONTENT from the MPQ you downloaded from the linked thread. This content is "DBFilesClient", "Character", "Item"


step 2:
Create a folder in your Data folder called "patch-Z.MPQ"



step 3:
copy the content of the MPQ into your new patch-Z.MPQ, should look like this:

Any idea on getting spell swaps working again? I have tried editing all the spell.dbc files i can open in columns 16 (since that was the display ID before in that column) and had no luck. I really want archangel wings!!!!! :P. Also I tried extracting the goblin model and changing it with the fem orc model. Every other race works fine (have yet to try worgan) that I have done, Belf Male, UD Male etc... but goblin for some reason crashes wow. Any thoughts on that one as well? I only know so much as in renaming the files etc.... to orcfemale. Not sure if there are more files I need to get out to make it work or what, LETS SOLVE THIS FOR AN EARLY GOBLIN LOOK! SO glad for this though, I HATE fem orcs.

Not entirely sure how this is supposed to work, since wow throws DBC version mismatch errors whenever you try to use these... Tried OrM->Everything in that thread and was greeted with:

WHY DOESN'T IT WORK!? GOD DAMN IT! Sorry I'm just really aggrevated, cuz I do the right instructions. I have downloaded 3 different HuF - ScM's now and none of them work. If u see any mistakes in this, please help: C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Data\patch-Z.MPQ\Patch-8.MPQ(I've tried naming the patch, Patch-Z.MPQ and Patch-5.MPQ and NONE of them work! Btw do I need some kind of model edit fix? Like WoWME?

your method half works for me
it properly chances the model of the race to the desired one but the skin textures do not change
(ex. gnome skin is stretched over a blood elf male model)

This is a assumption that might be complete non-sense since I dont know much about the new 4.0.1 files, but I think the reason why you encounter problems with loading model edits is the following:


you've all downloaded 3.3.5 edits and those MPQ's have older DBC files and wow 4.0.1 isnt capable of loading former datas anymore ( or atleast altered datas ), so if you want to have perfect edits, you have to do them manually yourselves again ( there is a guide posted how to)
you might want to delete everything except "Character" folders in your edits. this will cause model changes to be screwed up, but you will have a generell race to race swap at least

This is pretty much right on the money... However, so far as I know there isn't a way to read the new DBC files, or at least I have yet to find a viewer that can. Either way, you link to 3.3.x edits in your post and more or less claims that it should work once you do this one thing. The fact is it sometimes works, sometimes does not, and never works perfectly. It's misleading and frustrating to say the least.

There should be some kind of FYI or disclaimer in the post for people is what I'm really getting at here. =)

you must use the art.mpq, download MPQEditor and extract the spell you want.

IE: i want to edit arcane explode to look like ghoul explode..

take out from art.mpq
-DeathKnight_Ghoul_Explode.m2
-DeathKnight_Ghoul_Explode00.skin

rename them for exsample

-ArcaneExplosion_Base.m2
-ArcaneExplosion_Base00.skin

go to wow folder, create a folder called patch-4.MPQ then inside that folder make one called Spells and inside that one put the new renamed files, log in and check to see if it works, i've done a few spell edits like this works perfectly.
