How legit is model editing.. can it be done on retail wow? Even zone changing? Sorry if I sound noob.

Yes it can be done on retail WoW.

There's a FAQ about this but basically:
Don't run around announcing your changes
Try to relax on the model changing when it comes to Zones such as replacing castles into huts because to other you will appear to be floating.

Oh and avoid exploitive edits and you should be safe. Been model editing forever and have never been caught.
